Are there any videos of classic superstars applying their face paint? I always wondered if they all did it themselves or had someone else do it.

I know for a fact that Demolition used to do each others........the Roadies were probably the same since they pioneered the whole thing.
on Waltmans shoot he talks about Sting being so messed up on one show that he nearly put his eye out applying the paint.

there are lots of videos of Jeff Hardy (if you consider him classic) applying his face paint for example from SummerSlam 2009

I know Sting did his own. There was a DVD or VHS awhile back that had him in front of a mirror putting his paint on

I remember Animal saying that he did Hawks and his own facepaint.
Animal must have been crazy talented to be able to do quite a tricky design on his own face so legibly.

Why did Vince insist Hawk use the black spikes/red triangle look instead of the butterfy-esque effect he used when they first debuted?

If you've ever seen Jimmy Garvin's home videos from the 1987 Great American Bash tour, part of it shows Sting applying his facepaint in the mirror while the other guys clown around backstage.

I know Sting did his own. There was a DVD or VHS awhile back that had him in front of a mirror putting his paint on 14:20. Terrible quality and very brief, but I remember watching this tape all the time back in the day and thought it was so awesome that Sting painted his own face.

Wrestlers who wear/wore facepaint had to get sick and tired of doing that night in and night out, I'm sure. Such a hassle it seems.

Why did Vince insist Hawk use the black spikes/red triangle look instead of the butterfy-esque effect he used when they first debuted? My only guess is that he wanted the fans to be able to quickly differentiate between Hawk and Animal. Plus Hawk's original WWF face paint was similar to Ultimate Warrior as well. Hawk used the black spikes/red triangle before WWF as well though.

yeah, that version of Hawk's paint was far too similar to Warrior's. Im sure that's why.

Yeah, thye all did it themselves. I've often wondered who started between sting and warrior, they both had a little paint as the blade runners, I figure it was one of thems idea in the very beginning. I've often had the same question about some of the airbrushed attires, Like Warrior and RVD, if they do those themselves, or they each use their same guy for each one.
