I can't even begin to imagine the amount of guts it takes to do something like this, on a large or small scale. I feel little insecurities about myself, and worry about what others might think but this is on a whole other level.

but in reality i dont care, shouldnt be a big deal You're right, it shouldn't be a big deal. But in the society we live in it is a necessity and a huge deal and something he should be applauded for doing.

While I agree that in today's society that very few things should be considered "shockers", I would have to disagree on the level of the things you brought up, compared to this.
First completely out, current player in a Major US Sport, that is defined by masculinity to an extent.
But to each their own. I'm not forcing anything on anyone.

In an unequal society with high suicide rates and a rash of anti-gay bullying, a major sports star coming out can only help. Gay kids will have someone to look up to, an actual person and not some gay character on television. A gay kid is bullied and his escape from it all is basketball; he will now see someone like him playing the game he loves so much. Especially when you have people like Tim Hardaway, Phil Jackson, Tony Dungy and Mike Wallace saying what they say and with it still being ok for them to say it (not saying they should not be able to say it but their opinions are not shouted down like racist opinions usual are). Especially then, this is huge.

Yeah, there were rumors but nothing confirmed as far as I can recall. I think the rumor of OJ having a guy on the road came out after he was fired but I could be wrong.
