Y'all ready for The Husbands of River Song? If by that, you mean "Blah Blah Blah New Sonic Screwdriver", then yes. I'm ready for that. Seriously though, I love River Song. And I've been waiting for her first encounter with 12 since he regenerated from 11. This may sound like a tiny detail, but I'd be interested to see where exactly this ties in to their history. I mean, if River doesn't recognize him, they have to eventually spell it out. Which means at the time of her death, she knows that the Doctor gets another regeneration cycle. Lots of juicy topics, I suppose. Sine we are getting the New Blue Sonic in it's first glory, I'd love to see them tie up a loose end and have 12 give River the screwdriver she has at the time of her death.

Maybe she got out of the Library but with no memory of the Doctor so she doesn't recognize him?

I really tried to like this Doctor but after 7 episodes I can't stand this version not the actor he's doing a phenomenal job it's I do not like this doctor. Though I will watch the River Song episode as I really like her character.

The Christmas special may have redeemed what was a lackluster season for me. Love seeing Alex Kingsley one last time (unless they decide to one day pull her out of the library). That moment of recognition followed by "Hello sweetie" was priceless.

That moment of recognition followed by "Hello sweetie" was priceless. Yep. She didn't know about what Rassalion did for The Doctor in Time of the Doctor, so it made sense. That was a beautiful episode though. Wonderful way to end what's essentially been a eight year mystery.

Having the Doctor be the one who says Hello Sweetie and Spoilers may have been my favorite moments all season.
But the very end. Brought me back to the end in the Library. Took me back in to the top of the pyramids as the universe was burning. To a day when the impossible happened because he always listens and he can always see her.
The love story of River Song and the Doctor. Happily ever time.

It was.... okay I guess. Wasn't expecting much judging from pre-broadcast reviews, and they were certainly correct. I'll go for 6/10.

To be fair, this was one of the least Christmas-related Christmas special they've done. So I could see that among other reasons why some may not have enjoyed it.
It was a lovely ending to a love story, and I'm a sucker for those in the first place. Bringing so many things back up and connecting the dots, having the Doctor have a hand in the creation of the universally famous restaurant, the Doctor's reaction to being in the TARDIS, River marrying Stephen Fry.
To each their own.

They closed off the second biggest arc in New Who that wasn't the Time War/Where's Gallifrey. How can you only give it a 6? Simple. Because I didn't enjoy the actual episode too much, and I have my own opinion. You clearly adore River Song, but I don't. She's a good character, but just her presence in an episode doesn't automatically make it amazing for me. I was rating the episode as a whole, rather than just the final scene. Didn't feel much in the last 10 minutes either. Just think it's pointless giving River Song a send-off when she is a time travelling character that could easily meet The Doctor again at any point of her timeline. They tried giving her a send-off in 'The Name Of The Doctor', and here she is again. It was nice to see River's Sonic again though.

She came back in Name of the Doctor because Jenny was a psychic and could talk to the dead, as she was resting on Trenzalore. River's last journal entry was about Manhattan, and right after that according to the Library, was the Towers. Moffat said he wrote this episode as a way of tying up the last loose end of River, how she got the sonic and wound up at the Library. Moffat said he planned this episode because he assumed in pre-production BBC was going to ask him to step down after season 9 so he wanted to tie up his last loose end. Well, they asked him back, and he tied up his loose end anyways. Ashildr is immortal for good, but has an immortal partner (assuming girlfriend in Clara given their interactions and Clara's always saying she likes women) so that worked out. The Doctor found Gallifrey. The Doctor's half human. The Clara/Doctor combo was the true hybrid. Rassalion is gone. River's story is complete. He's done all he needed. The only loose end he has now, which came across as something he was leaving for a future writer is Missy and the Dalek. So yeah. I don't know, just thought the last two episodes were borderline perfect. But like you said, opinions.

So with the rumors swirling, what do you guys think? Do you think we'll get a full season next year or not? It doesn't seem like BBC, Capaldi, Moffat or anyone are really sure.

Turns out I asked a dumb question. No Doctor Who in 2016, just the Christmas special. Steven Moffat announced today he's stepping down from Doctor Who, and the creator or Broadchurch is taking his place. We'll get Moffat's final season in 2017, with the following season under the new runners (and one can assume new Doctor) in late 2018. . @blaze12341
