Hey guys. I'm planning a weekend trip to Mount Rushmore in August sometime. Is there anything I should be aware of before visiting? Any suggestions on what else to do and see? Eat?
Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend trying to see this one place they have there, but I can't remember what it's called. Anyway, there's this big rock with some dudes' faces carved into it. Not too exciting, but worth a look just because of how strange it is. If you can find it, I recommend checking it out!

Honestly, it's something you'll do once in your life and never do again. I remember it being a huge joke really. You can't get close to the mountain at all. You just see it from a ways away and the entire area around it is a ginormous tourist trap. Things may have changed since then though.

Deadwood is a nice area to stay and it's not terribly far from Rushmore from what I remember. Also while there you should check out Crazyhorse. It's a work in progress. I was there around 15 years ago. crazyhorsememorial.org/

Deadwood looks great from the research I've done.

Bring lots of water, pour it on rocks, find the Eagle, stick your hand in its butt, pull the lever let the trap door open. You'll go through basically and underground maze, eventually you'll find Cibola, the city of gold! Then you'll be able to retire a multikazilionaire.....Just make sure you bring Nicholas Cage with you or else you're dead.

Be prepared for lots of traffic in August. Sturges is that month. The annual Bike meet/ralley. I was working in North Dakota during Sturges, and traffic in ND and SD was insane.
But, it is a beautiful site to see. Another great thing to see is the Badlands in Watford City, ND.

What kind of weather should we expect?

What kind of weather should we expect? A nice high 80's-high 90's! Its a dry heat with no humidity. Rain here and there. July to September is the best time to be there weather wise! But, word of warning. Don't go into the bars and act like a tough guy. They hate the fact that the oil boom brought in "outsiders" and are really angry at new faces!
