Our sick time accumulates week by week where I work. We're also allotted personal leave days and annual leave days as well. Only thing is that you have to put in leave slips for those days and they're more often than not declined. Sometimes the only option to guarantee a day off that you may need is to take a sick day. Hey, I say it's your time either way. If you abuse it all and end up needing it one day then sucks to be you. But taking a sick day every now and then because you wanted the day off isn't something I have a problem with.

My job requires me to be there everyday and stuff piles up when Im not there. I didnt take a day off for the first 13 months I was there and I was getting burned out after 8 months. I arranged to use 2 vacation days next week and I hope I can still keep up with what I missed when I come back. Also, on 2 days, the company sent me out to take a Microsoft Access class and I was docked 2 personal/sick days for it. As a result, I had to come in sick on a couple of days. Wait...so THEY sent you to a class and docked you sick time for it? I'm not so sure that's legal.

My supervisor knew I would be out to take the class, but I am not sure if the Human Resources dept was aware.

My job really screws people over. You get 1 day off earned for each month you work. So you get 12 days for the year. If you call off for being sick, you must have a doctor's note. The first time you don't, it's a write up. The second, you're terminated. Its absolutely ridiculous. I'm more than capable of taking care of myself when I'm sick. On top of that, it's costing me money to go to the doctor. My job has no health care insurance. I'd be looking for other work like tomorrow. Sounds like a crappy place to work. You have NO IDEA. Funny that you mention I should get out of there. I've been in a long standing legal battle over my current contract, & it was taken to the state arbitrator. It was ruled in my favor this week, so now they can buy me out & I can move on.

I'm just confused why they would use leave time if they are the ones who sent you to take the class.

I get 24 personal/sick days a year but that also include any time off I take for holidays. For almost 3 years I probably only took 2 sick days but I used up all my days in the year. I don't feel guilty taking personal time or vacation time. My job urges people to take time off. If you don't you get burn out.

I am self employed so if do not work i do not get paid pretty straight forward. I do have the chance to get my work done and schedule my week that i have a day off here or there so that works. I do get the winter off Half of Dec,Jan, and Feb though unless i am doing snow removal. SO i can't complain really.

You go into auto-pilot and just work by instinct instead of thinking/analyzing.

When you are burned out all the time it is what it is. I have turned in a some of my best work with no recollection that I did it. Your brain just gets in the zone. Sent from my XT907 using proboards

I'm a supervisor - I've never missed work and just stayed home - but I've had to call in sick twice because I was in the hospital - both times I was out for about a week, due to being in the hospital. I was also absent for a week last month because my father passed away.
This year, I structured my vacation calendar so that I get one vacation day every week - this way, I'm working 4 day workweeks for most of the summer. I really like it that way! I didn't take any full weeks, though - my wife is expecting our second child and I'll need some of those vacation days later this year when the baby comes.... I did the math, my 20 days maximum accrual will have been built back up by the time the baby's due.
You should use your vacation days and not feel guilty - that's what they are for!
My employees, on the other hand - well, we have one of the worst attendance records I've ever seen. People call off daily - there's never a day when nobody calls off. Their union contract is pretty generous, too - so we can't write them up very frequently. I write people up as often as I can, though... it sucks having to cover all their positions when they are "out sick."

Actually got sent home today because I could barely stand. I work at McDonalds and i'm still in training. I was fine for about an hour then suddenly I got so dizzy I couldnt see anything for about a minute, then I felt like I was going to throw up so they sent me home. Really disappointing tbh

I am quite lucky in that I am vary rarely sick, but what really boils my piss is when people I work with who are sick and coughing up all over the place do not stay off and instead come into work and then proceed to make everyone else sick. That drives me more nuts than the people who just stay off when they are not really sick just because they need a day off.

With me I only take sick days when I have something planned, like a party or something. If im sick I go into work. I dont feel bad when I miss a day of work because I've had so many random things happen that cause me to miss a delivery on time. I've had truck problems preventing me from delivering, storms, roadways shut down, issues with the shipments them selves, issues with the trailer, so your delivery being late a day or two is not a biggie. Which in turn doesnt make me feel at all bad when I call off, only cept I dont call off to anyone I just dont go into work. I might as a courtesy call the customer and let them know the shipment will be late but it's not like when I worked at a store and had to let the management know I was going to be out the day.
