Hey all. First off let me start by saying I havnt been on here for a cpl of days. This will be a long rant btw, long for me anyway. I had issues with my home internet, part of my bad luck, so I'll start with the internet.
I had my internet go out. I was home Thursday using the internet at around 6 pm. Then I went out to get dinner with the wife and came back 4 hrs later. When we got back we had no internet. I call ATT to try and trouble shoot. I waited an hr on the phone before someone talked to me. The person ran some tests on my line and found nothing wrong. They mentioned it was prob my power supply and that it would cost me 100 dollars to get a new one. Then before I could say anything they transfered me over to someone from Uverse. I talked to the guy from Uverse for a bit but decided not to get it as im not sure what they do as far as instalation and im real picky about having someone come to my home and drill holes in the wall or whatever.
So I lost my internet.
I spent all weekend at goodwill and got some replacement Modems. None of them seemed to work. And then today I got one in the mail off of ebay. Only the one from ebay came with the power supply/cord. I was curious and just used the new power cord on my old modem and that worked. Im now back on the internet. My big gripes though are why not say Power Cord instead of powersupply? I looked at videos online of people fixing the power circuits inside the modem thinking Power Supply meant something inside the box itself. And also im pretty P.O.ed that they tried to upsell Uverse on me when I called asking for help not a sales pitch. And last, why tell me it would cost me 100 dollars to get a new "power Supply" I got that cord plus a modem, plus cables for 10 dollars on ebay.
Now onto the next issue.
I had my Television go out on me. I bought the thing back in November, per the Manufacture date the thing isnt even a year old. I posted about this on the entertainment thread already. Avoid Element brand electronics.
Then I had a dvd player go out on me. The dvd player im not surprised. It was a really cheap player but still the timing.
Really I meant this thread as a kind of tutorial. If you call and ask for help in regards to your modem and they say bad power supply, dont take the modem apart, they really meant to say the power cord.
