Yea, so I just ordered some items on ebay and tracking says it pretty much left US (Package was shipped on the 7th with first class mail). The problem is that I will be on vacation this sunday and won't comeback till next saturday, and I'm afraid it gets home during this week but there's no one there to sign.
Will the stuff get lost? How am I gonna get it back?
thanks.

Usually my postman is real nice with me and signs it himself and leaves it in the garage. That's probably because he knows my family and knows that we never scam people on the internet and such. So maybe if you know your mail man you could ask him to do the same? I now it's a risk if it gets lost or something and then you say you haven't signed for it and then the seller says you have and yada yada.

My guy usually leave a note on the door (almost like a post-it) then he tries again the next day. If you still aren't home he takes it back to my town's post office and leaves a note with info on picking it up. Only thing that sucks is that I live like right on the border of my town so the next town's post office is way closer than my town's post office.

So I will just go to my closest post office and ask for the box?

So I will just go to my closest post office and ask for the box? They leave a note and after three attempts of delivery they take it to probably your nearest post office.

They'll essentially leave a "sorry we missed you" note. They may attempt delivery three times, I think it honestly depends on your mailman. FedEx and UPS almost always make three delivery attempts before returning the package to the original sender (unless they receive a specific request to hold it at the nearest facility for pick up), I've seen USPS make more than one attempt, and I've seen them leave a note in the mailbox on the first attempt saying it will be at the post office after a specific time, so I suppose it depends.
If you really want to give yourself the peace of mind, you could probably just call the post office, give them the tracking number, let them know you'll be out of town, and ask them to hold it for pick up when you return.

My mail lady never actually makes us sign for stuff. Not sure why. Either way or gets left in a postal box we have for packages on a fence in our yard. I live in the country though, so I don't really need to worry.

Good luck. The postal service in my area is horrible. USPS usually leaves packages but I've had them take them back before. I was home, but never heard the doorbell yet they decided no one was home. UPS I've seen. The guy runs to my front door, knocks, and if no one opened the door in the time it took him to knock, the guy leaves.

I'm lost. Will the package be returned to the original seller or I will just find it in the post office near the house Oh, and they never leave any notes here.

The best thing to do is just to call them ahead of time, give them the tracking number, and ask them to hold it at the post office. That prevents it from going out on the truck (potentially) three times. It minimizes the risk of losing the package to a certain extent, and it gives you peace of mind.

Call them or else they might just leave it on your doorstep. Then you'll see some kid having a rumble with your figures.

I don't know how it is in America, but here in England if the postman tries to deliver the package while you're out, they leave a "Sorry we missed you!" note in the letterbox, and then they just take it back to the post office for you to pick it up.
