For some reason, I think i recall hearing that the original plans were for Austin and HHH to leave with the belts, but due to HHH going down, They called for a change in the ring. Am I correct with this? or were the titles changing hands from the start? Their title run lasted a month, so to me that means there were no plans for them to have a run with them.
Also, does anyone have an idea with how the Powertrip was to play out? Obviously you would think Austin and HHH would end up feuding, but has info come out on what the plan was. What would you have wanted if HHH not suffered the injury?

I think HHH was going to be in the Angle role for the Invasion storyline. I'd like someone else to say they heard this as I'm not sure on it at all Don't know about the title changes, it seemed like a match that should have been on a PPV but I'm glad Benoit/Jericho won despite HHH getting injured.

No, the match was always going to end the way it did. But Austin and Triple H did have to be talked into it earlier on that day.
According to Bryan Alvarez, the plan at the time for King of the Ring PPV was for Austin vs Jericho for the WWF title, and Triple H vs Benoit. I guess the idea was to keep the Austin-Triple H breakup developing and them going one on one at SummerSlam with Hunter as the face.

HHH was suppose to take Angle's place during the whole Invasion thing. Would have sucked IMO considering they had already dragged the Austin/HHH feud out and simply changing their face/heel roles wouldn't have freshened it up much. I loved the Austin/Angle feud for the most part and didn't want it to change.
From what I've heard Benoit and Jericho were suppose to always take the tag titles. Going into KOTR Jericho would then start up w/ Austin and Benoit w/ HHH. Though that never made sense to me considering the WWF always seemed to push Benoit as the stronger of the two so I think it would have made more sense had he taken on Austin while Jericho continued his on and off against feud w/ HHH.
The WWF teased both Jericho and Benoit as defectors to the Alliance before the neck injury so maybe Jericho wins the WWF Title and Benoit wins the WCW Title and both lead the Alliance w/ Booker T.

According to Jericho's book, they were always supposed to win, but didn't get to celebrate for obvious reasons.

Yeah they were always gonna win. I'm sorry for HHH that he missed the Invasion, but I think it was the same if not better than it would've been had he not got injured. And I bet he wouldn't have won at WM-X8 if he hadn't been injured.

I think it better HHH missed the invasion, it's a shame it was through injury but his rivalry with Austin had a perfect ending at No Way Out and Angle was really elevated from it.

Austin/HHH was being dragged out by the Two Man Power Trip and simply switching their face/heel roles wouldn't have been enough to freshen up that feud so soon after they had ended it. Their match at NWO was a great ending for that feud and no need to drag it into the summer and fall. Angle needed that feud w/ Austin to elevate him from just another semi-main eventer to a level few guys get to. His first title run was great but he never had a big, clean win to legitimize him. By dominating Austin he was w/out a doubt put on the same level that only Austin, Rock, Taker, and HHH were on at the time.

Ive always heard they were to go over too....IMO it would have blown if HHH vs Austin had continued through the Summer.
Ive always said it....Jericho should have been the one to defect at Invasion.it would have made him an overnight monster heel.he would have needed to beat Austin for the title at Summerslam to cement him though.
Austin defecting was just the worst tripe EVER.

Austin defecting was just the worst tripe EVER. Agreed. The Austin heel turn failed at WM17 and it certainly wasn't gonna work at Invasion when we all saw it coming. So stupid considering over the years Austin had basically laid clues for his real life hatred of WCW. Jericho and Big Show should have been the ones to defect. Even w/ Benoit getting hurt it still made sense for those two guys to go to the Alliance. Jericho would have instantly shot to the #1 heel spot while Show could have been turned into the dominant heel monster Heyman would turn him into towards the end of 2002. Have Big Show turn before the Invasion PPV and we get Austin/Angle/Taker/Kane/Jericho vs Booker/DDP/Show/Rhyno/Lance Storm (this way we still get RVD/Hardy at the PPV). Jericho then turns on the WWF and we get our top builds towards SS w/... WWF Title - Austin vs Angle vs Jericho Keeps Angle involved in the top feud, Austin can be a tweener, and Jericho can walk out as WWF champ. WCW Title - Booker T vs The Undertaker Make this a competitive feud and make Booker look even w/ Taker. Taker can look good in the match w/ a heel Booker finding a way to retain the title. People's Champ vs People's Champ - The Rock vs DDP What they did to DDP in the Taker feud was down right criminal. This feud made sense due to their pasts being the "people's champ" and DDP could look strong while still putting over Rocky.

I'm glad we got Angle vs. Austin instead in 2001.
Austin vs. HHH had already been played out by that point.

Didn't Austin drop HHH from a forklift while he was in a car?
Ugh. Terrible.
Did they ever explain how he didn't die? Is it because he is that damn good?

You can't help but wonder where the WWE was headed in 2001 if they never bought WCW and had the "invasion" angle happening. Also if Triple H or Benoit never got injured either.
Would Austin vs. Triple H have happened?? Would Angle end up being a face?? Would Jericho still go heel eventually and win the WWE Title that year??
It's too bad there wasn't a machine out there in the world to show us what would have happened if WCW never got bought. Maybe it would have made for more entertaining matches for the WWE, instead of trying to find a way to include WCW, ECW and WWE on WWE television at one time.

Austin defecting was just the worst tripe EVER. This could have actually worked do to the involvement of ECW. Jericho could have done it as a sign of gratitude towards Heyman for getting him on the map. They also could have went with Jericho's anger do to being "screwed" out of his WWE title win in 2000. The only way Stone Cold working with Alliance could have ended well is if he turned on them in the Survivor Series match.
