THought I would share this little video I stumbled across. It's a local news series about wrestling's popularity. So how is this relevant to the other brands board? Well at the 2:30 mark they talk about merchandise and show an old toy isle that features side by side: Wrestling buddies, LJNs, LJN bendies, and Hasbro figures all next to each other. I wasn't around to see the torch passed from LJN to hASBRO so this was a cool little taste of history.

Cool clip man. That was so cool to see all of those figures together like that. Did the LJN's really stay on the shelves that long until Hasbro's came along??

I would've loved to live near that TRU with so many LJNs still on shelves.
The ones I saw it was usually the same guy and not several like in this one with the single regular sized and bendies.
As seen Bob Orton was still on shelves into 1991 as were Mean Gene, Classy Freddie, Ted Arcidi, Jesse and Mr. Fuji that I can remember getting around that time but not all at once. Slick surprises me because up until late 1990s I always figured the 1988-1989 guys were mail away only considering I only ever saw them in Wrestling Ring ads.

I can't remember that happening where I grew up, but I'm sure there were a few that stayed on the shelves for a long time. At the Toys R Us here, I recall the LJNs being off the shelves for a while and then the Hasbros appearing one day. I remember getting DiBiase #1, Andre, and Hulk #1 when I discovered them that day Very cool clip, thanks for posting. I ran through it and saw the ticket pricing. I also remember those days, sitting front row at ringside for $16...yikes. Sad part is that was in the '90s for a house show!

Great find with that clip! We had LJNs in TRUs here up until 1992. Usually Blassie and Mean Gene. Thumb wrestler packs as well. Cool seeing the indy footage on there with Lawler-Kamala. I've always been fascinated by late-80s/early-90s indy footage, photos, and results. The WWF card that all the Richfield, OH arena footage was from would've been this one:
WWF @ Richfield, OH - Coliseum - September 22, 1990 Jim Duggan defeated Rick Rude via disqualification after Rude hit the referee Sgt. Slaughter defeated Nikolai Volkoff via submission with the Camel Clutch Ron Garvin defeated Bob Bradley Dustin Rhodes pinned Paul Diamond WWF World Champion the Ultimate Warrior & the Legion of Doom defeated Demolition when Warrior pinned Smash

I don't understand why Galoob's don't get the love that Hasbro's do. I guess me being a hardcore NWA / WCW fan has something to do with my biased with Galoob's over Hasbro's. I wasn't a fan of Vince or the Sports - Entertainment crap he put out back in the day and still does today

awesome! I remember when the LJN line was winding down, this store called "Zayers" had them on sale. I still have my MOC Roddy Piper that I paid $2.99 for. Damn I wish I would have picked up all of the ones they had for that price!

I wasn't a fan of Vince or the Sports - Entertainment crap he put out back in the day and still does today I think hasbro had more love for 2 reasons. The opinion reason that WWF was more wide spread, well known (on a national/international level), and geared towards kids with cartoon like characters, making there toys more widely popular. And the less opinionated reason being that Galoob had like 10 figures released in the U.S. The line was really short lived.

I remember seeing LJN and Hasbros in stores at the same time. I didn't get into wrestling hardcore until about 1989, so I didn't pay attention to the figures until the Hasbros came out. I do remember for certain that the only LJNs I ever bought in a store were bought after my first Hasbros: Adrian Adonis, Freddie Blassie, and Gene Okerlund.
It's also really great to see the merchandise stand at that WWF event, too. That's something you rarely see photos or footage of.
Man, I wish they would have kept panning down that aisle! That's how I remember toy stores aisles looking back in the day - just tons of stuff practically falling off the pegs.

The Galoobs are great, but Hasbro figures were also very colorful and bright. Strange as that may seem, all those crazy colors and wild gimmicks make people like the figures more. Plus the Hasbros had some articulation. Not much, but compared to the Galoobs, they had a lot more, lol.
