Park or Abyss the guy had never served much of a purpose outside a Kane/Foley hybrid. In my opinion.

i always thought they should have used abyss as their "kane" character. just kinda walk him down the kane path--IMO it would be alot better than the joe park character. the bumbling idiot routine is just a no. a big straight up no; not doin it for me

Because Abyss had grown to suck, awfully. Like, ing bad. He needed to go away for awhile. More can be done with Joseph Park anyway.

Abyss got so boring and over played by the time Joseph Park arrived I think everyone was taking a sigh of relief.

They could have run a storyline where everyone but Park knew he was Abyss, and someone, maybe a heel tried to 'prove' he was actually Abyss to Park's dismay. That's a really good idea. It would be very entertaining. Anderson would be a good foil.

-- Once upon a time, Abyss (IMO) was the best "Big Man" in the business, for being so agile for his size. But as someone pointed out, I hadn't noticed it until now, that he is very much over-weight and out of shape and compared to his former-self 6-7 years ago, yeah he's quite a shell from back then.
But I think now, he's meant to be a 'joke'; for people to slap their foreheads and go "Oh God!" - you listen to Taz' commentary whenever Park is on or even his entrance, he talks up Park to be someone not to be taken too seriously. And to his credit, Joseph has acted well to be the greenhorn character of a lawyer who became a wrestler, gets his butt kicked most nights, but those few nights he sees his own blood, the shades of 'his brother' come out and he winds up slamming the hell out of his opponent. I wouldn't say it's brilliant, but it's not a bad storyline either.
(gotta give props to EY also last week, for sticking to the psychology of the Parks character, by wiping away the blood off of Joseph's face, after that match. I was cringing they were going to forget to acknowlege there's still blood there, but EY is a pro. Just one of those little things I often spot, that normally go under the radar in TNA. But little things do make a difference, especially on TV).
