I'm running into a dilemma.
I only collect loose WWF Hasbros and need both Razor Ramons w/ gold chains, but I never see them pop up loose on eBay w/ gold chains, only without.
I've thought about buying them MOC, but I would feel crazy guilty if I opened them. I did submit an offer on a figure on card the other day with a badly damaged backing card, but someone else bought it before my offer was declined or accepted.
Would I go into some weird Collector Hell if I did this?

Many people collect loose, but I would not open one unless it is on a pretty damaged card. My opinion is that you should continue looking if they are MOC and in decent shape. I know loose collectors want theirs in good shape too, but they do not make them in packaging any more and there can only be so many that are left in the packaging for those collecting MOC.

Yeah, it's a d*ck thing to do.
I was just curious if anyone else has ever done it.
I would probably only do it if it was a badly damaged card behind the figure, like the Razor I saw on eBay last week. If I did find a MOC cheap, I'd probably try to trade it toward one of the few other loose Hasbros I don't have yet (I only lack green cards & mail-ins)

It does seem like a shame to open a figure that's stayed carded for twenty years if there's another option.

I would and have done it before. If I want it loose, I opened it up and displayed it on my shelf, if you really want it, buy it MOC, then open it.

I definitely wouldn't open a vintage package unless it was fairly common and the card was trashed. If you're patient a good complete loose example will come around.

I've done it before, in the end it's your money and your figure so do whatever you'd like. I also agree that hasbro figures aren't the easiest thing to find anymore especially Razor's but again if you want it loose, crack it open!

If you collect loose than buy a MOC one and open it up! Simple as that.
MOC figures are only good in your collection if you plan on selling them down the road. I know some collect them cause they like to have them MOC and tacked on walls, and I get that, I've done it too in the past. But if you're a loose collector, than who cares if you open it up. You don't plan on selling it anyhow, so it's not a big deal, right??

If you can find one loose, go that route. Otherwise you might have to break the seal. If you can find one carded cheap enough, go for it. Of course Im a loose collector and have no qualms about buying MOC figs and opening them

Open. If finding a loose one with the chains is that hard, get one MOC and open. Its for your collection so go ahead. Unless you can stumble upon a loose one complete, but that's random at best.
Just don't spend a crazy amount for a MOC and open it.
Overall, go ahead and get one for a good price, but don't stop searching eBay and Craig's list for a complete loose one.

I wouldn't open it for the reasons stated already... BUT
Think of the service you are doing for us MOC collectors. You're making our MOC more valuable by driving down the supply. lol

I plan on collecting Hasbro in the near future, and as picky as I am, I fully expect to purchase MOC and open.

What's the difference between Hasbro & Funskool? the paint quality is much poorer and in Razor's case, the chains are a completely different color. Funskool were what I consider "a licensed bootleg". They were completely legitimate for odd international distribution, but had such a random assortment of characters that it's questionable if they were authorized by WWF and not just Hasbro. Why Demolition Smash? Funskool cards are ALWAYS going to look like they've been through a war because they're paper thin. But that makes almost any carded Funskools pretty valuable.

I would just be patient. The razor loose that you are looking for will pop up loose for much less than a blue card MOC. As for the Funskools, they were mainly distributed in India and all on red cards. They are all on paper thin card and look to be discolored or substandard hasbro figures that didn't make the cut for sale in the us. The cool thing about the razor figure is that the gold chain is made out of metal. I've post a pic below of mine
