So yeah, watched Dredd earlier today for the first time since it first came out, and I have to be honest; I f'ing loved it!
Urban was amazing in the role, he played Dredd like this unhinged and deadly guy. I'm not sure if this was what the character is like in the comics (I've never read a single comic) but he played a great character and it made sense. The film itself was awesome, it was FUN; action galore and a simple story with nice, rooted characters.
So why the hell does it get the hate it does? Is it because its not a Dark Knight clone? I know everyone see's it as like one of the best films ever and blah blah, but people do realise that a comic book film DOESN'T need to be 3 hours long, have half a million characters (all with origins, middles and ends) and a convoluted story with twists every 5 minutes?
Dredd has a simple story, the characters make sense in this world, you don't need to be hit over the head with every little thing they've ever done, you know it and know them within a quarter of the film.
So yea, does anyone at all like this film apart from me?

whoa there!!!theres hate for Dredd out there?I genuinely wasnt aware....everyone I know LOVES it.
yes Dredd is like that in the comics,Urbans portrayal is spot on.....especially his bluntness & the dry humor before and after he has blown someones face off.I LOVED this in the cinema and have watched it 5 times on DVD.
its f*cking awesome.

Yeah, I haven't heard any hate either, although it was a box-office failure.
Now that its on Netflix ill probably watch it one of these days.

Watched it a few months ago and was fairly impressed by it when I wasn't expecting much. It's disappointing that there probably won't be a sequel considering the poor box office return for the film.

Loved it as well, and I read a week or two ago, Urban was doing an interview for his new show, and Dredd came up...
He said if the fans really show they want a sequel, there will be one.
Take that for what you will, but I'm sure if his show is a hit, and he stays on Trek in such a large capacity, he'll have a good amount of pull.

Best movie I saw last year. I loved it. Probably my favorite movie in the past several years.
I liked that the plot was simple and it just felt like a day in the life of Dredd.
No overuse of CGI or garbage special effects.

Dredd is easily my favorite movie of 2012 iand probably the second-best CBM behind only The Dark Knight. I'm not sure where you're getting your info about it getting bad reviews... it was actually extremely well-reviewed. It was just poorly marketed and had a limited audience because of the R rating. There is one pretty strong online campaign that both Urban and 2000AD endorse. I'm really hoping for a sequel.
The best part of it is that Urban never takes his helmet off, but still conveys that simmering under-the-surface rage that Dredd has.

I hope it catches on on dvd, so a sequel happens. It was better than dark knight rises.

I had been really interested in seeing it for the longest time, and I finally watched it on Netflix last week. Went out the next day and picked it up on BluRay, and I've watched it 4 times since. Absolutely love it, it's a great action film from start to finish, and definitely one of the better CBMs out there in terms of an "off beat" property. I really hope it gets a sequel, I think Urban was pitch perfect in the role. One of my favorite movies of 2012 now!
I think the reason it didn't do so hot at the BO was in large part due to the abysmal Stallone movie, it obviously soured people on the property, I hope a sequel can change that in the general Audiences minds!

Who hated Dredd? It got a ton of acclaim and people were saying it was an underrated gem.
In truth is was extremely mediocre. Nice cinematography and use of colour, but otherwise it was a very by the books action film.

I loved Dredd. Urban was a total badass. Kind of wanted him to be the new Batman but hopefully there will be a Dredd sequel instead.

I'm actually surprised to hear so many liked it haha, anyone I've asked has kinda shrugged it off and like's been said a few times, the whole poor box-office stuff but I really do hope that this petition does the trick and gets up a sequel.

Definitely my favourite movie of 2012. It's been selling really well on the likes of Amazon.
The sour taste of the Stallone movie & lack of advertisement were definitely the biggest reasons the movie flopped.
Sure the story is simple, but at least it wasn't overdone and had too much going on in it like the '95 version did, I mean you had stories that could've been made to individual films like Block War (similar to what we had in Dredd & is in the opening scene), Dredd vs. Rico, The Cursed Earth (including The Angel Family) and they even included the ABC Warrior from another 2000AD series. That and the setting seemed more interesting than what was going on in the Stallone film.
I wouldn't really know what I'd want for the sequel, though I'd love for it to expand the Dredd world without overcomplicating it.

I prefer the Stallone version. There, I said it. Assumption: You've never read a Dredd comic book. That's not a bad thing but it's pretty obvious, considering even the Dredd creator said that the Stallone movie was ing embarrassing.

I enjoyed it for what it was: a cheesy Stallone action flick. Same reason I like Demolition Man. I can understand though why fans of the comic hated it.

It's okay. Well-written, intense, gritty, faithful comic book adaptations aren't for everyone.
