I really liked Dredd. Knew nothing about the character before the film, and really enjoyed it for what it was; a throwaway action flick. The Raid is a thousand times better, though.

Personally i liked both dredds for what they were stallones dredds was made before the comic book era they were making a stallone movie not a comic movie that being said the new dredd is sick and doesnt recieve any hate it was just a bomb bottom line it just wasnt a marketable film mainstream wise i hear hardly any hate for it by critics or fans i dunno what the hell your talking about

It's okay. Well-written, intense, gritty, faithful comic book adaptations aren't for everyone. those are just buzzwords, it was barely any of those things except maybe faithful to the source, I wouldn't know. Whether or not it was faithful should have little bearing on how good of a film it was though, especially not something as cult as Judge Dredd. It was not well written AT ALL, I have no idea what your measuring stick for well written is. There were no character arcs whatsoever. The plot was essentially; drugs are bad, bad guys are bad, kill all the bad guys. What it did have going for it is it was very pretty. They took a bold move stylistically and it paid off. I just don't see why it got the praise it did, as if it was some kind of ground breaking indie film. The film owes any acclaim it did receive to those in the editing room.

Always confused about the amount of love this movie gets, I just thought it was an incredibly bad version of The Raid: Redemption but with guns.

It's funny I had heard good reviews for the film before purchasing it on DVD and never really got into the Dredd franchise prior. I saw this film before I saw the original Stallone garbage and this one is far superior. This was a no bullshyt take on the character. All along it appeared to be Stallone doing the role as he never removes his helmet. Brilliant! I loved the main antagonist of the film she played the role well.

Lena Headey has a talent for playing a villainous female role. She's Cersei in Game of Thrones, highly recommended if you haven't watched it, yet.

Dredd was written off for a sequel last year.....BUT it seems to have been an awesome seller on DVD/Blu.there is still hope according to Urban and co.
and I knew The Raid would come up because heaps of misinformed folks on this board incorrectly described it as a rip off of the Raid last year and wrote it off immediately.Dredd began shooting before the Raid though......
IMO its much better than The Raid.

I rented it from RedBox last year and watched it three times before I turned it in the next day.

I loved Dredd. So much. Look for the petition online to make a sequel, if anything deserves to be a full franchise, it's Dredd.

I dont think the movie gets a lot of hate, most people who have seen it seem to really enjoy it. Problem is, not many people saw it.

Just watched it for the first time. Definitely enjoyable. I love how they didn't go the cliche route of telling Dredd's backstory or explain why he's the best judge. Everything was implied, which is very refreshing.

Everything was implied, which is very refreshing. this movie was meant to set up the legendary Dredd that everyone is afraid of.word of the events of Peach Trees with Ma Ma spreads quickly & establishes the legend we see in the comic and the way he is seen by criminals.IE they are f*ckin terrified of him. I need to see this and hope it gets made......Thirlby was also excellent as Anderson and the dirty Judges were an excellent touch.

I loved Dredd for its simplicity.
Thank God it wasn't ANOTHER movie about some rock or object from space which could destroy the whole world and two groups are fighting over it. I'm looking at you Avengers and Transformers which had the SAME plot.
It just felt like a day in Dredd's life which made it awesome. I want a sequel.

Even though I didn't know who Judge Dredd was as I was just getting into comics at the time. I've always wanted to go see the movie at the theaters because he looked so badass and the story looked interesting. I manage to see it last year and I freaking loved it. It's such a great movie! I'm hoping there'll be a sequel in the future. In the comics he seems more ruthless and aggressive towards criminals.
