As I've been following the 2K14 coverage and listening to some more of the commentary (which has ALWAYS been questionable at best) I began wondering somthing.
When were talking about modes and games like 30 Years of Wrestlemania or Legends of Wrestlemania how hard would it be/would it work to take audio samples from actual broadcasts, clean them up and use them as opposed to freshly recorded audio in a studio. If I'm not mistaken they tried this a little in Attitude Mode in WWE 13 with mixed results, but it just seems to me that a great announcer (such as JR, truly one of the best) struggles when he's not live in a booth at ringside. Also, using samples would allow for some really authentic commentary by way of men individuals who are no longer with the company (such as Ventura),no longer as to do it (Heenan) or no longer with us (Monsoon).
Thoughts?

Well the problem with 30 Years of WM is that for the first one through VI, they'd have to pay Jesse Ventura for royalties and that's not gonna happen. They could EASILY use broadcast audio but the problem is filling in the gaps between the relevant lines of commentary.
IMO what they SHOULD have done with 30 Years of WM mode is what 2K did with NBA Greatest in NBA 2K12. That game had the current commentary team doing commentary over a classic game as though it was a 'From the Vault' special on NBA TV. Imagine how much better that would be in a WWE game instead of JR and King lifelessly reciting iconic lines of commentary and nuking the experience. JR is the greatest commentator ever but if you listen to him in a video game, he's godawful.
Also, I hate the idea of Lawler calling Rock/Austin from WrestleMania X-Seven. Could it have been that hard to get Heyman in the booth?

But doesn't WWE own the rights to all that archived footage? How can they throw it on 24/7and numerous DVD'sbut not use it on a game?

They own the rights to everything BUT to use Ventura on a DVD or video game, they have to pay him huge money in royalties so every time they can avoid paying him royalties, they do. Most DVDs they put out have his commentary edited out unless it's a PPV anthology or the Saturday Night's Main Event set.

Commentators need to start getting excited in the game, it kinda kills authenticity a little. Something I hope is added for 2k15 is Commentary being just JBL/Cole on commentary for SD/ME, then add additional lines for King on Raw and PPV.

I think part of it is that they always give them scripted lines. Screw that, play matches recorded from the game and tell them to ad lib most of it like they do on TV and give them a few points to make about each wrestler during the match like they're given on the scripts in real life.

I don't understand why they don't at least recite the lines with enthusiasm. I mean yeah it's a video game and all, but at least put some effort into the commentary.
For example, Mankind vs. The Undertaker: Hell in a Cell
Real Life Commentary: GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY!! HE KILLED HIM!! AS GOD AS MY WITNESS, HE IS BROKEN IN HALF!!!
In-Game Commentary: Ohhh no... He may be broken in half. Someone get the EMTs...
I may have over exaggerated that but my point is if they do commentary like 2K does for NBA, then it would be amazing. And I know I compare the game to NBA a lot but it's because it really feels authentic in its presentation. Maybe the fact that the commentators don't have an off season like NBA commentators and don't have time is the reason, I don't know. But, I will say the commentary is improving a little bit in each installment. So, I would say in maybe a few years, we'll definitely see major improvements in the audio section as a whole.

Because the guys are just being given lines from a script. They're not being shown anything that would evoke any kind of emotional response. The NBA 2K commentary feels authentic because they show them clips of the game and have them call it as it happens. Obviously they didn't do that this year, I hope they do it for WWE 2K15.
