Thought it would be interesting to hear people's stories. I was 9 years old, I don't remember anything about the school day, just everything after school really. I'd have been in Primary 5. School finished at 3pm here in the UK. The sun was shining & it was pretty warm. Tuesdays I would go into town with my dad pretty much every week for a meal and usually a wrestling figure or wrestling mag. On this day I ended up getting a TTL series 8 Rock figure, the one where he's wearing his ring gear with red designs and it came with a sledgehammer. After that I think we got a McDonald's & then decided just to take a bus back home because there was some sort of bomb scare on the walking route. At this point it must've been about 4:30pm or so, we got back to my dad's house & he put on the TV in the living room as I settled down to chill. And immediately there was coverage of the Twin Tower attacks. I believe by this point they had already collapsed & they were just showing replays etc. My dad was pretty much in disbelief, " ing hell" he said as watched the screen from a close distance. I remember seeing footage of a bunch of Israeli or Iraqi people: men, women & children cheering about the incident on the news, what the man. Being 9 years old, I really couldn't fathom how big of a deal this was & figured that tragedies happen all the time. After maybe about an hour of watching the news, and talking about it, we headed over down the road to my mum's house where I live. My mum was in, as was my older cousin David and his partner. They had been watching it as well. I just settled down & started playing with my figures & SmackDown 'Real Sounds Arena' in the living room & enjoying the nice weather whilst talking to my cousin etc, not really grasping how big of a deal horrific tragedy was and how much it would impact the world. A couple of days later there was a 3 minute silence held at 11am while we were in class. Where were you 12 years ago today?

I was 3 or 4 at the time.
I was in preschool, and I was inside after getting in trouble. I remember playing, and looking up at the TV. My mom, who was volunteering, and the teacher were watching CNN or something. I remember just looking at the screen, and seeing and explosion, which was the second airplane.

In 7th grade but I was sick and stayed home that day. My mom decided to stay home with me instead of going to work. A bit later a family friend called and told us to turn on the TV. And that is when we saw what was happening.

I was 13 years old, sitting in 8th grade, period 1 Math class when the teacher came in and whispered something to our teacher Mrs.Morrison. I'll never forget her saying " how could you miss a building?".... Then, over the intercom they said all teachers, please tuen on the news. When we did, the second plane hit. It was like a movie. We couldn't beleive what was going on. By second period, we had heard of a plane hitting the pentagon, an another down in Pennsylvania. Our teacher Mr.Davey owned a pizza shop ( family buisness) afew blocks from the towers and he left school to be with his family.
Kids in class started crying about what would happen next. When they started mentioning terrorism, people thought we would get hit at any moment. It was very surreal. We were all told that if our parents wanted to pick us up, that we were allowed to leave school for the day. Alot of people stayed home for the rest of that week. Even at home, I was glued to the news station, still in awe that it happened. Whatching people jump to their death.

I was sitting in 11th grade history class. A guidance counselor came into the class and said, "Turn on the tv. Stop teaching history and start watching it." The rest of the day, we just watched television every period, except French (she was a bitch who gave us a pop quiz, no joke.) After school, every gas station in town had lines into the streets. My girlfriend and I went and filled my car's tank then we took my mom's car and got her tank filled. Every redneck in Tennessee was flipping the eff out saying that, "The A-rabs are gonna jack the cost of oil up on us."

I was a junior in high school. I was in math class when they told us to all meet in the gym. It was there they told us a plane hit the world trade center with no connotation. They didn't say the size of the plane or that the towers crumbled. They also turned off every tv in the school and turned off the internet access. Typical Catholic ideal of hiding the truth I guess? I remember going home and being horrified of how much I did not know.

I was 10.
I saw it on television but I was too young to understand the weight of it all.

I actually remember this fairly vividly, surprisingly. I was 7 at the time, I was in my classroom, and we were doing some work that involved one of those overhead projectors. I was up at the projector at the time, the teacher was right beside me, and another teacher ran into the room and whispered to her that two planes had crashed. I overheard this, and thought to myself, "Why is this big enough news that the teacher had to be told immediately?" Of course, I found out why later that day when I got home and turned on the TV.

I was 3 or 4 at the time.
I remember we were dropping my sister off at school and my mother heard it on the radio when we were on our way back home, then she turned on the TV and put it on the news.

I was in computer class in High School when I heard the first plane had hit. I thought nothing of it at first and just thought how crazy that was. The rest of the day just felt weird. I knew something was wrong but wasn't sure what. I just knew something didn't feel right. It wasn't until I was sitting at lunch that I got a call to the office that my Dad was there. I knew even more that something wasn't right but nobody was saying anything. With a weird feeling in my stomach I walked slowly to the office fearing what I might find out. On my way there I noticed many kids crying and many being picked up. As I got to the office my Dad and Brother were waiting there and told me what happened. The rest of the day was just weird. Being 13 I didn't know what to expect and feared the possibility there would be more attacks killing us all.

15 years old, 10th grade.
I had an eye appointment that day, so I didn't go to school at the normal time. I was in the office when the attacks started, and it wasn't until after my mom picked me up that I even learned what was going on. My mom pulled up to an auto body shop to get an estimate on her car when the radio coverage broke with the 2nd tower collapse. I got to school and signed in and not 5 minutes after I got there - I wasn't even to my locker yet - the principal came over the PA and said that they were dismissing school at 12:30. So I got to my locker, got my stuff for my next class, and as I walked back by the office to my class, I see my mom in line with about, no BS, a hundred other parents. She ended up signing all 3 of us kids out and we all went home.

I was also 9-years-old and in school. I found out when my mom picked me up for lunch (which we frequently did) and she told me about it. I really didn't know the gravity of the situation by hearing about it through here or on the radio. It was when I saw the footage that it somewhat sank in. I'd say it took about a week for me to fully understand the significance of the attack. With all of the media coverage it became truly terrifying at times to think about what would happen next.

I was 18, and so far here Im the only one that was already out of school, lol. It was around 10ish, my friend Brie called me and woke me up. She told me the Twin Towers were gone, and I turned on my tv. I was in shock. I couldnt imagine what had happened. I called my dad, who was living in Brooklyn at the time, to see what was going on with everyone. My dad went into Manhattan quite a bit, luckily he wasnt there that day. My uncle actually was in the city at the time but was already on the train heading back to Jersey. Found out from my mom that my cousin actually worked in the second tower, and after the first plane hit he bolted. He left his keys, everything, he just got up and split.
That night there was a candlelight vigil in Red Bank, me and my friends went. We just stood there with everyone else, quiet and shocked. I sat there crouched for so long my legs fell asleep and I nearly fell over when we about to leave. Of all the commuters from outside NYC that died, Middletown Township where I greww up lost the most people, that was truly sickening to hear.
It wasnt until several years later, that I actually went to the site with my dad. Thats when it really hit me, and I started to cry. Never will forget that day

I was in seventh grade. The students watched the news during every class and we weren't allowed to go outside for recess.

Was a senior in high school. In one of our school's computer labs, when our gym teacher came in, and told him about the first plane, and our teacher checked the news on the computer. of course at first it was the thought that it was just an accident, until the next plane hit. The rest of the day it was going to class, and if there was a TV in the room, we did nothing but watch the news. Just had that numb feeling the entire day.

I was sleepin', lol. Then, my brother called the house and woke me up and told me to turn on the news and said America was under attack and planes hit the World Trade Center.

I was in 5th grade, and in Art Class when it happened. All the teachers had the news on for the rest of the day.
