Im not one for buying figures for any sort of investment, i spend my money on them because i enjoy them, be it displaying them or playing with them. But because ive so many i do wonder from time to time if they will be worth any decent money in years to come if the Good Lord spares me (that being the primary reason i dont invest because tomorrow is promised to no one!). Anyway ill stop being morbid, what do people here think? Kids nowadays will always have the basics to track down when they are older and ever want to collect again so they might not even bother wanting to track the elites down but i think they would just because they are the better figure but it has got me wondering. Everything has a price and if our elites were to become very valuable i think i would sell if it came to the crunch but only if the numbers were right.

I just buy the ones I want. I try not to speculate on these because Elites are quite expensive, even at retail prices, but yes I do think theres good value there, especially guys who you only see one or two times in the Elite line.

I think you're asking if Elites will become the most valuable series? If so, along with the Legends, yes.

Certain figures are pretty valuable already so if you can get them at a decent price I'm sure they'll appreciate some. I definitely have some figures that I'd be hard pressed to sell even for more than they are worth and others that I'd get rid of if the price is right. Elites are highly collectible for sure, that's a big part of why we're all talking about em!

Elites are more valuable than basics overall right now, but that's because Mattel is still active. When/if WWE moves on to someone else, Mattels will drop in value just the same as Jakks did.
So, no, they're not a good investiment.

I said i don't collect for investment, it was a simple question. Its not a mindset its a simple query that every collector at one moment or time has pondered. I think Mattel Elites are so well made and detailed that ive a feeling they will be very collectible in years to come. Regardless if they are or not i will enjoy collecting these awesome figures.

Mattel seem to only do one-off figures of some of the 80s and 90s guys in FB/Legends. The further we get from that time period, the less likely it is that we'll see older B and C level names from that time period going forward. We may have the very last figure of guys like Papa Shango and Arn/Tully. For that reason, I think some of them have legs for investment for sure. Elite 16 Punk is another one that might be very valuable one day just because of the iconic night that figure was based on. If they never make another one with that shirt and in that full attire? Maybe not as much right now, but people are gonna want that thing in 10 years when Punk's long gone.

I buy Elites because i love the detail, accessories and because of more articulation you can do more moves (Sharpshooter and Figure 4 Leg Lock for example). I own more Basics than i do Elites but i'm looking to replace all of my Basics with Elites in the future, money and time consuming process but i feel it's worth it. Not really an "investment" per say, more like it's fun to collect and play with, and Elites (in my opinion) are good for play and display.

Well Roman Reign's figures are, not sure about the elite line though. Yeah, because Black Roman Reigns is as spot on as Black Layla.

Nope these aren't pre-90's toys. Toys today are produced in such greater numbers now and with so many versions being released between elites, basics and all the repaints I don't think any will be worth more than the other.
Yes, I read your post, but for the people who do buy toys as investments they are in the wrong hobby. Future cost should never factor into anyone's decision when purchasing a figure.

Yea man I did read it. I think you may have taken it the wrong way, but I didnt mean what I said in the sense of you were asking if buying them now would benefit you later. I know you collect to collect and enjoy them, so I dobt want you to misunderstand what I said. Sorry for the confusion man

I honestly think some of the figures are already peaking at the crest of how much they are going to cost. The line has been around for 4 years now, I think with year 5 and on that people are going to naturally start losing interest like with any toy line and then the after-market will become more saturated with the figures.
Right now when you type Elite Matt Hardy, for instance, into Ebay, you don't get too many hits for either E2 or E6. Once more people jump off the line, which is natural since some only collect because the stuff is new and fresh and then later become easily bored, these figures won't be quite as rare and so of course prices will drop. Matt Hardy is probably due for a dip anytime now, since he is currently riding at about $60 to $80.
Let's look at Marvel Legends for a moment. When Hasbro took the license, the ToyBiz legends were soaring to premiums. They continued to be sought after as many people jumped ship with the re-branding but wanted to complete their sets. Boredom taking it's natural course, along with Hasbro making a marked improvement made plenty of people sell. And then later they came back and it was Hasbro figures they wanted. What you have with the line now is largely worthless ToyBiz figures, with a handful pulling premiums that, while high, aren't like they used to be. Meanwhile Hasbro figures like Black Widow, Winter Soldier, Warpath, Deadpool, Crossbones, etc. etc. going for super high premiums, even loose. And that will crash eventually, I'm sure.
And while we're on the topic of Marvel, let's not forget the mass-produced ToyBiz lines of the 90's. What used to have a high aftermarket value, is quite literally junk. I could probably get every 90's ToyBiz Marvel figure and not break $300. MOC. That's nuts.
