Fresh off my Jake "The Snake" Roberts autograph signing Friday night, I had the good fortune to be able to attend the UWE show in Linglestown, PA on Saturday night.... what a fun time!
I went with the intention to get autographs from "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Honky Tonk Man, and Brutus Beefcake.... the setup was very well organized, the legends were already signing when we walked in - and we were among the first to go up the the tables.
First up, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan - I can honestly say this was the BEST wrestler meet I've ever had. Hacksaw immediately started talking to me - asked my name, where I was from....
He then said "Hey Frank! Have you seen my Hall of Fame ring? People always ask me how many diamonds are in it - I tell them, Vince McMahon gave it to me - it's got nothing but coal!"
That was awesome.... he made me feel like he knew me.... you don't always get that when meeting a wrestler. He got my whole family in the pic - told them to hold thumbs up, said "Frank already knows what to do!"
Hooooooo!
As my friend Dan got his photo with Duggan - he got photobombed by none other than The Boogeyman.... The Boogeyman was HILARIOUS - he chased some little kid all around the arena.... I saw him pick some other dude up and spin him around in an airplane spin. He was pretty much in-character the whole time - having fun with people and just staring at random folks - freaking them out. Awesome....
As I told Hacksaw - this was my first wrestling magazine cover as a kid. I've kept it for years - now I want to display it framed on my wall in my collection room - and what better way to do that, then with an autograph! He was very kind....
What an awesome experience..... next up Honky Tonk Man..... also pleasant, I'm afraid I was a little rude to him - I was having trouble finding the exact change and was digging through my wallet while he was telling me some story about traveling from Minneapolis with Greg "The Hammer' Valentine..... I was hardly paying attention. Shame on me..... here he is, though!
Got my Honky Tonk Mattel signed.... nice!
Finally, Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake... I didn't get my photo with him, as I met him a few years ago.... he was nice though. I got one of my magazine covers signed, as I'm starting a new project to decorate my display room....
The show was awesome - here's a video highlight reel I threw together this morning.... take a look!
Thanks for looking! I had an awesome time! I'll definitely be checking out UWE again!
