Hey all, I've been on YouTube watching a bit of Stone Cold lately. Been listening to his podcasts for a few months, and they're always great, so I figured I'd re-visit his in-ring work. I'm a fan of his matches with Bret Hart and The Rock, I figured I'd post the question here.
What matches would you say show Austin at his best? I've heard great things about his Angle feud, can anyone point at one of their classic bouts? Also, has he ever had classic matches with Foley or HHH? I know he's wrestled both those guys numerous times, but I wonder if any of them are considered "classics" to the people here.

Steve Austin vs. Kurt Angle from SummerSlam 2001 was their best match IMO.
Austin vs. Bret Hart, any of their matches, hell, even a street fight on Raw where Bret legit has a bad knee was still a better match than a lot of the matches you see today.
I liked Austin vs. HBK at KOTR 97 as well.
Austin vs. Owen Hart at SummerSlam 97 was great, except for the ending.
Austin vs. Triple H at No Way Out 2001 was an absolute classic! Really should have been the main event at Wrestlemania X7 that year.

I'd seen that KOTR match against Michaels, don't know how I forgot that. Indeed a great one.
Austin/Bret was always good, I remember that street fight. I also forgot to mention Final Four, not strictly for Austin in particular, but he helped make that match great.
I'll check out Austin/Angle at SS'01 and Austin/HHH at NWO'01 tonight, thanks for the recommendations!

All vs. Bret Hart
Also vs. HBK at King of the Ring 1997
There are others...probably tons but those are my favorite Austin matches.

Just watched Austin/Angle at Summerslam. Wow, I'd forgotten all about that match. Really excellent stuff.

His match on Raw with Chris Benoit, November 20, 2000. I think it gets over looked, because one, it was a Raw match, and two it was the night after Survivor Series, when Austin faced Triple H, ending with that forklift spot.

- All of his matches w/ Bret Hart
- SummerSlam '01 and Unforgiven '01 w/ Angle
- WCW as Stunning Steve against Ricky Steamboat
- WM17 and WM19 against Rocky
- His multiple matches gainst Benoit and Jericho in May/June '01
- His few matches w/ Brian Pillman in WCW
- Three Stages of Hell w/ HHH
Just a few that pop to my head. Tons more. Before his neck injury he was a great technical wrestler and put on classics in Japan, WCW, and the WWF.

If we are gonna talk WCW, I guess the Hollywood Blondes vs. Ricky Steamboat & Shane Douglas needs to be mentioned. The matches those two teams had in late 92 and early 93 were off the charts at that time for WCW. The tag matches they had were actually the main event matches on house shows at that time, because no other match could follow them.

As popular as Austin is I also think he's underrated to some extent because people forget how great he was even prior to the neck injury. It really impacted him.

vs. Rikishi at No Mercy 2000 was a great brawl and I loved the match. vs. Ricky Steamboat at Spring Stampede 1994 was just an amazing match. vs. Triple H at Survivor Series 2000. I remember watching it as a kid and thinking Triple H died.
and from a personal enjoyment (because I was there live) vs. Mr. McMahon at St. Valentines Day Massacre. The match told a great story and these two had amazing chemistry.

Yeah, by the time I started watching wrestling he'd already had his injury, so I was used to his brawling style more than his technical wrestling ability. Still, though, he had a lot of great matches with either style. I watched Austin/Dude Love at Over the Edge last night as well, that was a good one. I had forgotten about all the chaos at ringside with Briscoe and Patterson, and all the other stuff going on. Was great to re-visit.

I actually really liked his match with Brian Pillman on Raw in 1997.
Austin & HBK vs. Owen Hart & British Bulldog is excellent also.

Austin & HBK vs. Owen Hart & British Bulldog is excellent also. I gotta look that one up, thanks man! Also, the tag match with HBK against Owen and Davey was great, I've seen that a few times as well.
