I was just watching this interesting video and couldn't help shaking my head along with Heyman at that Peters guy. But then I began to think, and he really got his way. All the bitching and complaining about morals and values really worked. And I mean in hindsight. I hate to say it but these people who were saying that the generation of kids watching it were gonna be negatively affected, were right. Look at some of the $hit we hear in the news these days.
Now I'm not saying at all that wrestling played a part. I LOVED the attitude era and still wish it returned. But the vulgarity and explicit content that was all over TV and media back then seemed to really do a number on this generation. They were so easily influenced that they let television help mold them as a person. For Better or worse. And now we deal with constant and continuing ignorance all over at a higher rate than ever. And to be fair the only ones I've seen make the effort to change back into a "family show" is WWE. Idk this video just got me thinking and I think you guys will find it interesting as well

I know many disagree, but I think WWE made the right decision to scale it back.

I know many disagree, but I think WWE made the right decision to scale it back. I agree with you in a sense, but I wish instead of just trying to just going full on kid friendly, they would have tried to find a medium in between. Even kid shows throw some subtle humor towards the adults. Also they keep shoving the same two guys down our throats constantly like we haven't seen multiple times before. The best way I have found to describe it is that WWE is trying to give us Superman when everyone is tired of Superman always winning, they want Batman instead. People want an actual underdog story, not the the fake one thrown at us every time. Also we want to see the bad guy win every once in a while. I don't care for the "puppies" and all the blood, I want somebody I can relate to win.

Plus the Rock n' Wrestling days were PG and god knows Hulk was shoved to the point I was gagging. Like it or not it's WWE recipe no matter the ratings.

I personally enjoy the Ruthless Aggression Era the most and the Attitude Era also let other guys stay in the spotlight even if they weren't on top. It just seems that the more I think about, the less it seems that it is the main event scene that causes the problem, but the lack of good/consistent writing in the everything outside ( and at points inside) of the main event storyline(s).

I won't disagree at all that the writing leaves a little to be desired.

The problem with Cena atm imo is that it seems as if realistically the only people that are over enough for a clean victory over him to seem believable are Punk, Orton and Bryan. Where you only have to go back a few years when there was Edge, Orton, HHH, HBK, Jericho, Undertaker, Batista. Not blaming Cena but the WWE has lost a lot of star power in the past few years.

I liked the intense and realistic feuds but the sex stuff was always the problem.
Bret Hart went on a 10 minute cursing rampage and USA loved it.
However when you had tits, asses, pimps, prostitutes, porn stars, live birth, live sex, casket sex with a corpse, etc. is when the problems happened.
I was 12 and had a DX shirt that said "Suck it". Hence why I'm so effed up at 25.

I think it's more of a case of they loved the AE so much that 2003 seemed crap in comparison. But now 2003 seems amazing in comparison to what's going on today.

The curious thing is, the people who were complaining in 2003 -- "WWE should push some small wrestlers! WWE should hire guys from the indies and let them wrestle! There should be less storylines and more long matches without storylines!" -- well, they got their way now too... And they still hate it. Ultimately, haters gonna hate.

But there's certainly more wrong with the company now than there ever has been IMO.

Exactly my point. Yes it was great (at times) but things needed to change. It happens and you have two choices... Learn to adapt or miss on all the good of the current WWE cause you're too busy bitching n' moaning. Unfortunately far too many chose the latter option.

The Attitude Era had only two ways to go. - More outrageous, in an attempt to top themselves every week (the same trap that ECW fell into). - Stale. Changing it completely was the best thing to do, we all look back fondly on it because it didn't get stale or crap.
