I, like many fans, wasn't entirely happy that WWE went PG. It wasn't for reasons such as dialled down scenarios and curse words, but because the product was suffering. The shows began to really insult our intelligence feel incredibly stale. It was almost as if going PG had limited them (which it didn't really need to do). With that said, I understand that since 2007 WWE had to do some serious damage control. Dialling the product back to being as PG as you can get was what was necessary for them to change the minds of the media and parents alike in order to pave the way for a new generation of wrestling fans. I've noticed that WWE is at times pushing the envelope again, but not as frequently or as extremely as they once did. It was a brilliant business plan that was garnered to targeting a new, younger audience. The majority of us on this board were no longer a concern because they had us. Wrestling fans are incredibly loyal and while a lot of us decided to stop watching, more of us stayed loyal to see what would happen next (myself included) despite the product not being as entertaining to us as it once was. I'm very interested to see how WWE will position themselves in five years time when a lot of the kids that watch now are in their mid-late teen years. I've already noticed that a few of the WWE Shop.com commercials have a trendy teen wearing the merchandise and a lot of the PPV theme songs over the last few years are pop/dance/rap songs. Will they decide to go younger once more and repeat the cycle or will they try to follow the audience they have now into adulthood in an attempt to maintain their loyalty?
