Hey guys. I'm kinda torn about a work situation. So about a year ago I got a temp-to-hire job. It's been going really well and I've been getting so many opportunities to do different things and learn so much. My manager has really taken me under her wing and mentored me. About 4 or 5 months into the job, I was asked if I would be interested in coming on board as an official employee. About a month or so later we started salary negotiations which last all of 2 minutes before we agreed on a salary. I asked for $50,000-$55,000 and my manager agreed on $55,000.
Since then there was something going on with the temp agency about my release date. Last I heard about 2 months ago, I was available for hire (my manager told me that) but I'm still not hired. I personally think it's because my manager has been so busy and I've been here so long that she forgets I'm not hired yet.
Now I'm hearing from a close friend at Cablevision that his department will start hiring soon and he's going to be calling me with an offer.
I want to stay where I am but I don't know what my status is. I know they want me here because they have said multiple times that they are building the department around me and they would eventually like me to be the head of the department. But still, I don't know if I could justify turning down Cablevision with this amount of uncertainty.
I'm also very uncomfortable bringing it up with my manager because she's helped me out a lot and I have a tendency to say things wrong so I'm worried it might come out like I'm threatening to leave. I really don't need much to stay here. Just a guaranteed job. After 12 years of working hourly jobs for barely any money, it's time I start thinking about my future.
Any advice?
