I wanted to start this thread a few days ago, but I forgot. Anyway, I'm interested in how your collections got started. Again, I know this thread exists in some form or fashion, but it's buried and I've met some new people with great collections. But new people and old timers (I'm talking to Hasbro collectors since that's what I am, but anyone please feel free to chime in)...what did your collection start with?
More specifically, I'm referring to that moment when you decided "I am going to collect these," not the moment you rediscovered your old toys in a basement, even thought that's surely a part of it. But I mean, when did you specifically start seeking out pieces to build a collection?
For me, I had found some of my old Hasbros, but could not find several more. I wanted to rebuy the ones I had before, just to mess around with them, maybe make videos or something. So I bought a lot on ebay, and when they got here they were in terrible shape and it made me sad, and so I started buying individual loose figures to replace the ones I got in the lot, and then one day I decided to specifically go to a local store to look for the loose ones, ended up driving all over town looking for figures, and that was when I said "if I'm doing this much work, I'm going to do it right." So I decided I would build a quality collection of loose figures.
And then I saw the green MOCS and bought those because I thought they were cool, but with no intention of starting an moc collection. And then I started getting one disappointing loose figure after another, and I thought "You know what, I'm just going to buy this unopened because at least then I know for sure it'll have the accessory, and it won't have a missing arm, and it won't smell like somebody stuck it in their butt." So I bought the only two my local toy collector store had, and from there it's history. I already had the green cards so I thought hey, the worst is over, I've got the rare ones. I had no idea at the time that some mod figures would be WAAAAAAY more difficult to find than the green ones, but it turns out to be true.
So yeah, your turn.

for me, I started re-collecting WWF Magazines and Programs in about 2008-2009....then for some reason, around May 2011, i decided I was gonna collect all of the LJN figures, as I found my old bin full and they were disgusting....only planned to collect LJN, but at that time, i got a deal from a local person for $300, it came with a 95% full LJN collection (only missing One Man Gang, White Shirt Ref, Short hair blue andre and White shirt Hogan) in about average to good condition, and he tossed in about 35 or so hasbros...from there.. basically spent that summer upgrading my figures for free (buy better condition stuff, then sell off my worse condition for the same price or more than i paid for my better condition stuff)...by the end of the Summer 2011, i had the full set of LJN and hasbros....since then, i went working on other WWF only items and thats still where im at 2.5 years later...

I was born in '82, amassed a bunch of LJNs and Hasbros as they were released. Always kept them around and decided to collect and expand in high school (97-00). I stayed vintage but dug the ToyBiz WCW line so I also got a few of those. Never got into Jakks, Playmates, etc.

Well I went to my friends sister sweet 16. He brought wrestlers and a ring. I played with them thinking they were cool. Then my mom got me 4 wrestlers and a ring. I played with them occasionally. Then one night I was flipping through the channels(I was 7 @ the time) and saw people wrestling. I thought this was cool. Then I just kept watching smack down more and more then found out about raw and the rest is history

I was 4 years old when the line debuted. I was 5 when I received my first figure. I got Hulk Hogan #1, and fell in love with wrestling. From there on out my cousin and I would rent all the ppv's or any wrestling video that we could get our hands on plus watching what was on television. I am an only child, so I must admit I was somewhat spoiled as a kid. I remember one Christmas morning I awoke to the original Hasbro Blue Ring with Blue Turnbuckles already assembled and a dozen or so new figures. Through the years I acquired nearly everything WWF including the figures. Before it was all said and done I had all the Hasbro line except for Andre the Giant, Akeem, Warrior #3, Billy Gunn and the mail away Undertaker. I even had the miniatures, King of the Ring (Yellow Ring), several but not all Wrestling Buddies, the stencils, sticker books, trading cards, Damian the Snake, etc. You name it I more than likely had it.
In 2007, me being a broke college kid I decided to unload my collection of figures and rings on eBay. It is something that I regret to the fullest to this day. Not only did I part with my childhood, I got ripped off. I sold everything as a lot minus the green carded figures. I honestly didn't know the value of anything at the time. I had just saw that people were paying more for the green carded figures previously. They are worth way more today as well it seems. Anyway, to make a long story short I was new to eBay back then as well. I shipped everything and even included a tracking number on it. The buyer claimed to eBay that he never received the merchandise, and demanded a refund. Even though it was clearly provided through the tracking information provided by UPS the sob managed to win his claim because of some loophole that I missed to address an email by a certain date. I was forced to pay back $450 and I lost my childhood obsession. I was devastated. (This story I'm telling is what pissed me off even more about the guy who sent me the destroyed Akeem, Rick Rude, Bossman, Beefcake recently.)
I told myself one day I would start rebuilding my collection only this time it would be MOC. I started scouring the internet for information on the line, and found this place. (Which is awesome!) I had started buying a few years back. I would pick up one here or there. Recently I have began buying in bulk for better deals, and for ones I feel like I couldn't pass up. (Warrior #3 and Beefcake #2) I'm a sucker for a new to my collection MOC Hasbro lol. I love old school WWF. I have a majority of the Jakks figures as well. Probably 100 or so figures, rings, and accessories from that line that I never did sell. I would trade them for the Hasbro line in a heart beat lol.

These are great stories, everybody! Thanks for sharing! Nature Boy, that is the most horrible thing I've ever heard, and I don't blame you one bit for being upset, but you're revenge is looking sweet, my man, so kudos to you.

Well my brother was really into wrestling in his teenage years so i watched with him, it was all WCW at first then i shifted to WWE. I was given a few of the BCA figures and i remember not being fond of them because they "didn't look like the wrestlers on TV" so for Christmas in 1998 i asked my parents for the best "Stone Cold" Steve Austin figure they could find, in Christmas of '98 i awakened to a TTL "Stone Cold" Steve Austin (I could never figure out which series, but it had black tights, black pads, black knee crutch and white wrist tape) and the Titan Tron Live (Which i still have and use in KWF to this day, albeit missing parts). I collected as much figures as i could when i discovered TTL and later R3 and RA. I collected off and on from 1998-2006, when i got back into wrestling in 2006 thanks to the revived D-Generation X i felt i had a big enough collection to begin a fed, I named it Mikey's Wrestling Federation after myself, and i kept that name until 2012 when i renamed it Kyokutan Wrestling Federation. I changed the name because i was really getting into japanese stuff and my favorite style of wrestling is extreme, extreme in japanese is kyokutan, hence the name. I didn't collect much from 2007-2010 aside from a random RA CM Punk and some TTL figures from an RL friend, When i discovered Mattel's figures in 2011 i purchased a B7 Sheamus and continued collecting both them and some Jakks. although recently i've been collecting only Elites (Trying to replace all of my basics and Jakks with Elites, slow and expensive process )

I grew up with a box full of Hasbros that my older brother had. Bruised and battered from hours and hours of enjoyment.
Growing up I remember purchasing a few new ones. Strangely the only one I clearly remember buying was Ultimate Warrior 3. Wierd because I remember it so clearly, this is probably 20 years ago plus!
They were all stored away and after the best ever years of WWF in the early 90s, I lost interest in it and being a teenager took over.
Then, whilst moving house probably 6 or 7 years ago the old box was pulled out - this led to a search on ebay, and the rest as they say, is history.
A few years and many pounds later, I had (and still have) a vast collection that I couldnt be more proud off.
Although I stopped collecting a few years ago I never sold anything other than doubles, and who knows what the future holds.
Highlights include the mixed box of 50 or so MOC Hasbros I got from the states, which to my surprise included a mint Dusty, Warrior 3 and Demolition. Only a few were listed in the description but for the price It was worth the gamble and it certainly paid off.
My awesome bidding wars and banter with the Origional Hasbromaster, Dennis from Germany.
Getting a selection of My Bret collection signed in person by my childhood hero.
And my 'friendships' I made on here with Brian (figurecollector), Francesco (CDP) and both Paul and Ady amongst others.
Heres to the future. Theres plenty more to find.

Started off when I was little boy. I loved and grew up with the Attitude Era and so, typically I was at a local Toys R Us back in like 1999 I believe? Might of been 2000. And what I saw was the titantron live playset with the free Mr McMahon figure you got with it. My mother purchased it for me and I've been collecting heavily ever since. I like to call it a clean addiction haha .

I was already collecting other figure lines (TMNT mostly), but I got a Hasbro Jake Roberts figure for Christmas the year the series started (1989, I think). I didn't watch wrestling yet and had no idea who he was, but I thought the figure was cool, so I thought I'd check it out. I've been hooked wrestling and wrestling figures ever since.

I actually have no idea what my first figure was or even how old I was...I would have to guess i was 8 in 1990 and Hulk Hogan Series 1 was my first. The rest is history as they say and I have them all now!

Great topic, And I remember it all so clearly.
I had starrcade 86, night of the skywalkers tape sent to me when it was released for beta max, that started an obsession with American style wrestling. I only got to see british wrestling until 87 on bskyb when world class and wwf were on. Then wwf bendies were released in about 88 in the uk, so I collected them, then summer '90 BOOM, wwf hasbros were released and after wcw galoobs. Damn, still collecting, 26 years later!

I had neck surgery (aka Peyton Manning surgery) and knew I would be on the shelf for awhile, so I needed something to do. I actually didn't buy my first Hasbros until July of last year. I bought a lot of 40 on eBay and that started everything. I actually never owned any Hasbros growing up, as I spent my allowance on baseball cards and never got into wrestling figures.
I did own a few LJNs as a kid. I only had George the animal Steele and Greg Valentine.
I just remembered that I also had some AWA Remco stuff. I had Ric Flair, Larry Zybysko and the ring. The ring didn't last long, since the posts come out easily.
Six month later, I have an entire Hasbro loose collection (no mailaways), a half dozen Hasbro MOCs, 80% of the loose WWF LJNs (that's what I'm focusing on now), a complete set of WWF LJN Bendies and over half of the WWF LJN thumb wrestlers. I've also gotten into collecting old PWIs, The Wrestler, and WWF Magazines.
I joined this forum in August or September (I think), because none of my friends or family 'got' what I was doing. I figured I would join the forum and talk to some like-minded people. I've enjoyed seeing everyone's collections and messaged back-and-forth with a few members near Indiana. I hope to meet up with them at some wrestling events this year.

I'd love for all of us to meet in Indy or something one Saturday and hang out.

Not to sound to creepy buy my wife and I have a 4 bedroom house and always have local bands stay with us so anyone would be more than welcome to stay as well!

I lived there for five years during college...I know all the good bars, haha. I just looked at the site and it's at the Clarion Fundome (it's right off I-69). I haven't been there since it was a Holiday Inn as a kid. It's a unique place to have something like this. I wonder if there will actually be wrestling or if it will just be a convention this time. It sounds fun. I should be able to make it. My brother went to see Million Dollar Man last month and then went to a small indie show near South Bend that had Chris Hero, Tyson Dux and Zack Gowen. I had a random migraine and couldn't go.
