So my girlfriend is suddenly obsessed with this 'paleo' diet and free range/gluten free/ blah blah blah everything under the sun. Naturally as the current unemployed housewife this makes life extremely difficult for me as I still want to continue gaining weight with clean food (clean is good enough for me) and no silly specifics.
What I'm saying is, has anyone gone through this or a similar situation before with a picky eater, what do you do to cook for them AND yourself and are there any easy to make dishes that are good and don't involve replacing macaroni with cauliflower or something absolutely ridiculous like that under this 'paleo' umbrella you've eaten before?
Also, in b4 RKO her.

Considering that "paleo" is a prefix that means prehistoric, I suggest feeding her some raw saber-tooth tiger.

Yeah basically that's the point. The diet goes that anything cavemen ate is ok or some stupid idea like that, so things like gluten or whatever and most carbs are cut out. It's dumb. And seems to me like a massive fad but gotta do the right thing I guess.

Honestly, I think the guy to talk to would be Enderson. He's in semi-retirement right now, but let me see if I can't get him to respond.

I think you should try the "please go back to RSC" diet. Now if I could be serious for a moment, I honestly don't think that will work. Just eat chicken, turkey, and vegetables.

Sure, I can provide that if anyone knows of a good 'please drop 1500 dollars into my lap as soon as possible so I can pay for wrestling training' diet

So many people use the Paleo label and then change it to meet their specific needs. I used to label myself as Paleo though I've become a bit more flexible with what I eat. Still, I consider Paleo my "base," so to speak, and I'll do an extremely brief, scattered bullet-point defense of it. Yeah basically that's the point. The diet goes that anything cavemen ate is ok or some stupid idea like that, so things like gluten or whatever and most carbs are cut out. It's dumb. And seems to me like a massive fad but gotta do the right thing I guess. So, eating fresh, natural foods that the human body is meant to eat is a fad? If you want carbs, have carbs. Paleo doesn't have to be low carb if you don't want it to be. Feel free to eat starches like potatoes (white or sweet) and pumpkin. Some people, who are more lax with the laws of 'paleo' eat white rice as a sort of "cheat" food, since it doesn't have the gluten that wheat has nor does it have the husk that brown rice has. Have fruit if you want to, too... just don't overdo it (natural sugar is still sugar. Just eat chicken, turkey, and vegetables. We have a winner! Don't forget beef, eggs, and other healthy fat sources like coconut, avocado, and nuts (some people say nuts are overrated since they're so caloricly dense and easy to overeat.) And if you don't like cauliflower, try roasting it with some olive oil and maybe some garlic chunks. Also works great with broccoli, parsnips, etc.

I was just a little frustrated and impatient with her being picky about where things came from and after reading what you wrote and doing more research it isn't something I'm dying over. Informing yourself is good, I suppose! Thanks for the favorable look at it, it helped. I just hope she's not going to be too annoyed with me rinsing canned beans that I have check for a 'plastic-free' label instead of having to wait and soak for 15 hours. That's really it. Sure, I can provide that if anyone knows of a good 'please drop 1500 dollars into my lap as soon as possible so I can pay for wrestling training' diet Sounds like you're on the Kickstarter diet. Never!

I used to eat fresh vegetables but I am on a tight budget now. Is canned vegetables okay? I've heard to stay away from canned veggies, but some say frozen are ok (I still stay away from those) some veggies aren't too expensive...where I'm at, you can get like 15 servings of fresh Kale for 99 cents -- and it's one of the healthiest foods you can eat (highest in Vitamin C)
