That's a huge shame. The guy was a great actor. Just watched Ides of March a couple days ago, and he was great as usual.

If you ever wanted a definition of what acting is at its truest form, look no further than Phillip Seymore Hoffman's performance in the movie Doubt (also one of my favorite films). Phillip Seymore Hoffman was easily one of the best in his field today and is a tremendous loss to Hollywood and acting. RIP Phillip Seymore Hoffman, one my all-time favorite actors....

Curious how his death is going to affect Mockingjay. Oh, wow. I didn't even realize that till now. Based on the importance of his character I'm sure it'll be recast but overall, still shocking and very sad to hear.

Thought he was great in Along Came Polly. What a shame. He made me laugh so much in that movie..Let it rain!! He has always been good in serious films..enjoyed him in even small parts, like The talented mr. Ripely Such a shame that drugs can take over & end lives

Very sad news so many classic roles, I'll remember him for Capote, Boogie Nights, Almost Famous, and The Master just to name a few (he was one of my favorite actors) truly sad part is he was sober for 23 years and just relapsed last May.

One of the best actors of the past 25 years. It's sad that he was able to stay away from drugs for so long just to have this happen.

He was a phenomenal actor, actually quite underrated despite having won an Oscar. It's a complete shame that he had such terrible addictions.

This sucks, he was what made Along Came Polly so hilarious. I loved him in Twister (his performance was the only thing I loved in Twister). He was awesome in Almost Famous & Pirate Radio is one of my favorite movies. He was such an underrated and versatile actor, this is one big loss. RIP

Always weird to me when an actor passes and people say they have never seen any of their work, especially when they are a bigger name like PSH. Even more strange is that people have not watched The Big Lebowski.

Sucks that he's dead, but I have little sympathy for those who use/abuse drugs. I'm more sad that he would do this to his friends and family, they are the ones who are going to have to live with this.
Like was said above....don't do drugs. It's not worth it.

The first film I remember him from was Boogie Nights, which was fantastic.
Just another reason for me to hate drugs. I guess life sucks so badly that so many people desperately need to escape it. Wonder what drugs Colorado and Washington are gonna legalize next.

Heard about this news earlier on and just got home now to make a post about it. I couldn't believe it when I heard of this sad, unfortunate news. I was shocked and still am. Phillip Seymour Hoffman was a tremendous actor and it's just terrible the way he went out. His demons got the better of him. I will remember him most from one of my favorite movies, Patch Adams. in' drugs took out ANOTHER great actor. When will it ever end?? He was only 46 years old. Too young to die. And as they say, the good die young. Yet another tragic example of that. R.I.P. Phillip Seymour Hoffman, you will be greatly missed.
