Chase was quick to end the phone call with Detective Faber. Faber wanted to know when Chase was going to the police station and Chase said he'd be there as soon as he could. He still has work and he cannot shove that off to the side to answer questions he has already answered many times over the past decade.
Chase sat down at the table and looked over the papers and pictures sprawled across it. He picked up one of the papers.
Chase, on this week's Revolution you will be teaming with Jayson Garrett to take on the team of Andrew Carter and Mason Dixon. Good luck.
"Luck? Who needs luck? Andrew Carter is a non-factor, no offense to him but he's not exactly one who makes a habit of being where he's needed. So that leaves Dixon. And as good as he is or as good as he thinks he is he cannot take on Garrett and I. We'll beat him down every time and twice on Sunday. Garrett and I may not get along despite Garrett's best efforts to make us be friends but we at least have wrestling and that is a place we can coexist."
Chase crumpled the paper into a ball and threw it across the room. He got up from his chair and headed to the bathroom. Just as he was about to enter, someone started knocking on the front door. Chase begrudgingly went to the door. He sighed then opened it. On the other side of the door was Chase Landon.
Chase, "Surprised to see me, Victor?"
He received no response as Victor Danzmare put his back to the wall.
Chase made his way inside the house and sat on a chair.
Chase, "It's ok, Victor. I figured you'd be speechless. I mean after all these years and I'm just now reappearing? I'd be shocked too.
Before I get to what I came here for, I wanted to give you my condolences for the loss of your father. I know what a bastard he was. Like father like son. And I'm not talking about your brother.
I've heard all the lies you've been telling that reporter. That you've been telling the world. The newspaper said we were last seen at a restaurant but you said your girlfriend picked us up and we had a birthday celebration for you. We dropped her off at work and we drove around until we saw an old man whose car had broken down. We stopped to help and the last thing you remember was looking under the hood of the car.
Victor, she was my girlfriend. It was my birthday. You've been lying to all these people. Pretending to be me. You've taken my name. You've proclaimed yourself Chase Landon before God and the world. You have claimed to be me. We both know you are not Chase Landon. You are Victor Danzmare.
I know who that old man was. I know he wasn't some stranger we randomly stumbled upon and decided to help. That old man was Jacques Fairbanks. You and he hatched some sort of plan to get rid of me. Why? Your family life was too hard so you wanted to get away and start new? You wanted to start new as me? You wanted to take my family? You took them and you threw me aside so you could be happy. You discarded me like a piece of trash.
I know Fairbanks helped you. You looked nothing like me but it's remarkable how you've been able to make yourself look identical to me. How much of Jacques money did it take for you to look like me? I cannot imagine it was cheap.
You were gone a year. You discarded me and you came back to town one year later. It took a year for you to heal from the surgeries. It took you a year to work up the courage to go back. It took you a year to get your story straight. How long did you plan all of that? Six months, a year, longer? It was a flawless plan. You came back as me and you said Victor was gone. Gone forever. No one would ever find Victor Danzmare because he was standing there the whole time pretended to be Chase Landon. They would have had to find me. And why would they be looking for Chase when you were there to tell them you were Chase?
I have not come back to hurt you, Victor. I've come back with a warning. They found me, Victor. They found me. And you are about to pay for what you did. So when you go to the police station and meet with that detective, he won't be there to ask you the same questions you've been asked this past decade. You'll be there to answer for what you did to me that night."
Chase Landon, actually Victor Danzmare as he was known before the disappearance, took a swing at the real Chase Landon.
Victor looked down at his fist and saw it was bleeding. Shards of glass were in the sink and on the floor. Blood was engulfing his hand. He looked up to see the broken mirror. He could only see half his face in what remained unbroken. Victor ran to his bedroom and grabbed a shirt to wrap around his hand. He then applied pressure.
Victor was breathing heavily. He grabbed his pill bottle, took one out, went to the kitchen and took a bottle of water out of the refrigerator. He placed the pill in his mouth and took a drink of the water. He swallowed the pill and slid to the ground. The bottle of water hit the ground with him and spilled everywhere.
"I don't know how you did that. You couldn't really be here. I made sure you couldn't be. I know that for a fact because Chase Landon is dead and I killed him."
