If this doesn't belong here feel free to move it. I figured this was the best place.
Anyway, I just got back from JR's one man show. If you are on the fence about going, I strongly recommend it. At the show I just went to Tommy Dreamer and Joey Styles were in the audience as fans so that was cool. Also, Judah Friedlander was sitting a couple rows behind me.
The show is part storytelling and part Q&A. His stories were hilarious. A few good ones in particular were
- He was working his first announcing job and he was announcing with Leroy McGuirk (who was blind). He was calling the match when one of the wrestlers got slammed really hard and crapped himself. JR tried to keep calling the match, but Leroy (who was blind and couldn't find his mute button) kept asking on live TV "Who S*** themselves?"
- He said Vince loves jokes that involve bodily functions and he knows Jerry Brisco has a weak stomach. So one night before Vince was going out on live TV, he was standing in gorilla pretending to go over his promo while Jerry was doing his thing. But really Vince was just trying to work up a fart. So Vince's music starts playing and Vince finally farts on Jerry Brisco. But he pushed too hard and actually sharted. Minutes later he was standing in the ring cutting a promo with a skidmark on his pants.
- Back in the 80s he got off a flight with Flair and they brought a couple flight attendants with them back to the limo. They were each talking to a flight attendant, and Flair kept nudging JR. Finally, JR looked over and saw that Flair had his junk out with a huge erection. He said the girls ran out of the limo and Flair said something like "It works 50% of the time!"
In the Q&A portion, he answered some good questions. He talked about being fired because of the Summerslam thing with Flair, telling the world about Owen's death only seconds after finding out for himself (he actually almost started crying telling the story), Vince letting JR hire Mick Foley so that JR would learn what it feels like when you hire a guy that ends up sucking and it turned out to be the opposite, and he address the CM Punk and Daniel Bryan situations.
For Punk he mentioned that he was talking about it with Austin the other day and he remembered that when Austin walked out, he ended up losing over seven figures worth of income, because even after he came back it was a long time before he was able to start earning royalties on merch sales again since he breached his contract. His opinion was that he understands Punk being burned out, but no one should ever walk out on a commitment.
He very briefly address the Daniel Bryan thing. He basically said that he laughs when people whine about what's going on with Bryan. Back in the day, guys would kill to be in Bryan's position where he has a long term storyline going.
He also mentioned that the young guys he's really excited about right now are the Shield and the Wyatts because all 6 of them are talented and they come to work ready to do what they need to do.
