The article made my skin crawl.
Do I belong to WWE when I don’t have WWE Network because their product sucks and is a shell of the days when I used to watch Owen, Bret, Michaels, Austin, a tag circuit that had a heartbeat, a mid-card that made you care? I could go on and on. But in a few short weeks, I’ll be watching baseball every night. Not WWE Network. And all my smark friends will be doing other things because even though we saw the crap-sandwich of Dave Batista, etc. etc. coming a mile away, it doesn’t make it any less brutal.
I definitely don't like wrestling like I used to. I still tune in. The group of a dozen guys it used to be that I watched with have wittled down to about 5. The five that remain are pretty 'meh' about it. The WWE focus groups are wrong. They have driven a huge following away. IT's all ego. They don't want to be told my their 'Universe' how to book, even though they say the universe creates a star that's not true. Look at Bryan or Ziggler.
Bill Simmons and ESPN’s Grantland is all over Daniel Bryan. They could care less about Dave Batista, in fact; they think he sucks. Is ESPN an ‘established provider of content’? I think they might be. WWE gets a wet dream when Bill Simmons takes time out of real sports commentary to talk Wrestling. If we can learn anything from all of this – it’s that WWE is definitely ignorant and equally lucky – they are the only game in town and because of this they’ll survive! It’s also the reason their product has gone to crap. They’re not forced to go with the hot hand anymore like they had to back in the days of Austin, etc. Otherwise Bryan would already have the strap – you and I both know it.
