Victims' relatives Sunday criticized jurors' decision for James Degorski, who, with an accomplice, shot and stabbed two restaurant owners and five workers at Brown's Chicken and Pasta during a botched robbery. Their bodies were found in a walk-in cooler and freezer. Degorski, now 41, accused a Cook County Jail guard of punching him and breaking his cheekbone and eye socket in 2002 — just after Degorski's arrest in what had been one of the most notorious, unsolved murder cases in Illinois history. "If broken bones are worth a half-million, then how much are seven lives worth? This just doesn't feel right," said Ann Ehlenfeldt, a sister of Richard Ehlenfeldt, one of the owners who was killed. But Degorski's attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, hailed the jury's decision, which came Friday after a three-day trial. "I think it's a beautiful day for civil rights when a jury can put aside emotions and say we are all entitled to our civil rights," she said. "It's about protecting the constitutional rights of the least among us." Despite the $451,000 award, it's not clear whether Degorski will ever see any of the money. Touchy subject. Not even sure I want to touch it. But I'll say that prisoners have rights and you can't punch them. And a lot of tough guys on the internet will say that's BS. Whatever though. I doubt he see's the money.

Whatever money he gets should go the families of the victim's he murdered..
Can't they sue him for wrongful death, or something like that, in civil court and take the money he just got in this ruling?

Yea that's what I am thinking and they may have already sued him but he had nothing at the time so this would all go to them in that case.....

I'm all for civil rights and applaud the verdict in his favor. I just happen to think the monetary award should have been $0.02. I hope the money goes to a good cause.

Have fun in the jungle. No ****, you don't think I know that. Anybody who commits murder should pay big time. I mean, those people aren't going to have their voice in the court of law since their dead. Look at Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh for one. He was sentenced for killing 168 people and was later put to death six years later. If the evidence is strong to put someone in jail for the rest of their lives, then the American justice system did its job to keep those offenders from doing harm to another soul. As for the OP, I hope that guy doesn't see a penny because he certainly doesn't deserve it.
