He's been gone for over 6 weeks now, and is showing no signs of a return.
I know its the in-thing to side with whomever 'breaks the fourth wall' and flips WWE the proverbial bird, but as a long time WWE/CM Punk fan, I cant help but feel he has shot himself in the foot.
'No one man is bigger than the WWE'.
...And no matter what your belief is, this quote rings truth. Over the years everyone from Austin to Brock, from Rocky to Angle, from Michaels to Flair, have had public disputes with the company they work for and 'walked out' on them. Expecting the wrestling world to halt as they soak up all their new found buzz from their situation. And there have been times where exactly that has happened and worked in positive affect.
The storylined events of 'The Summer Of Punk' gave the IWC the belief that CM Punk was a man who was willing to cut off his nose to spite his face to honour the opinions of most wrestling fans worldwide. And it propelled him into stardom.
Fast Forward to 2014, and the man who was seemingly ambitious to achieve the kind of goals only a fan would aspire to, has exposed himself as nothing more than another Batista. Walking out because things aren't going his way anymore. Selfish.
Regardless of his reasoning for leaving WWE, in the event he left in protest of Daniel Bryan's mistreatment (for example), then he is just another ex wrestler sat on his couch in Chicago, watching as the wrestling world keeps spinning, righting its wrongs along the way.
In June 2011, he said it himself:
"The reason I’m leaving is you people. Because after I’m gone, you’re still going to pour money into this company. I’m just a spoke on the wheel. The wheel is going to keep turning and I understand that."
--
As a big fan of CM Punk since 2004, I obviously do pray that one day the 'Best In The World' returns to reclaim his throne upon the top of the WWE mountain. If you're struggling to come to terms with it, just remember this: At WM30, Daniel Bryan (an indy-turned-WWE worker, the real best in the world) could end up ending the show as WWE Champion. A man who's treatment over recent months would easily justify him walking out. A man who never walked out. A man who rode a wave of popularity into the main event of the most anticipated Wrestling show in history....
And he did it the RIGHT way. No backstage politics, no protests (off camera, that is), no neglecting his supporters. In Bryan we trust, Good Riddance CM Punk.
So to turn this into a topic, who thinks Bryan will actually leave WM30 as Champion? What role do you think CM Punk would have played at WM30?

Was he not leaving anyway once his contract was up?

I've come to peace with it, ever since it was breaking news on a live F4W podcast. Maybe it's not as big a deal for me, because I'm more of a fan of Bryan than CM Punk. Perhaps also, because I've seen the man wrestle in person several times, have two action figures, two t-shirts, the WWE 2K14 game, and his DVD set. Plus lots of YouTube footage to watch. I'm set on CM Punk. I've been a fan of Bryan since 2001, when I saw him compete in a dark match before my first Raw in Boston, opposite Jerry Lynn. I was upset when he was fired for the tie incident, but correctly predicted when he returned at SummerSlam 2010. I've been teased for Bryan being my favorite, from my friends, but I didn't care. My girlfriend puts up with my man-crush like a saint, buying me a bunch of his merch as gifts. I was featured on the Miami Herald website for a Bryan poster I made at Hell In The Cell. Point is, I'm a Bryan fan for life. In one episode of Raw, they changed a 'meh' WM lineup, into one I can't miss. I don't think they would've bothered to add the stipulation, if he wasn't guaranteed the main event spot.
I'm still a Punk fan. I just appreciate what he did. I hope he calls it a career. I'm just glad they're focusing all their energy on Bryan.

I love how Bryan is god now to you people. I like punk. I wish he would've came back so he could've been in triple threat. But you have to think, punk has been through more than Bryan has, he's done more than Bryan has, have you took into consideration that maybe punk was burnt out. Maybe he was upset at the fact that they're using the same story with Bryan that they did with punk about going against the corporate guys and someone not wanting him to be champion(Bryan=HHH Punk=Big Johnny) I think punk would've wrestled HHH with Bryan in the main event and then have the two feud until payback (in Chicago) have punk win the title there, retire, thank the fans, lay the belt down and raise Bryan's hand after the fantastic match and then punk leaves through the crowd. This would see Bryan winning the title back the next night against tista, Orton, cena, etc.

Punk didn't leave because things weren't going his way, it sounds more like he left because he was extremely burnt out and had been working injured for quite some time.
You can speculate all day long, but until we hear from Punk himself, we don't really know what happened.

I don't really blame Punk, the direction things were going with him wasn't worth it to burn himself out. Don't forget, he's also leaving money on the table right now. He'll be back eventually.

I think the fans are ready to move on, by and large. Was there a CM Punk chant at Raw Monday? I cant remember, but if there was it must not have been that loud or sustained. Chicago Raw was the turning point......once he no showed that , fans accepted the reality of it. And WWE squashed the controversy by confronting it head on (which they should have done to begin with) and also by sliding Daniel Bryan seamlessly into Punks spot as the internet darling that gets a push. .......now to keep it fair, we have no clue, other than speculation and 2nd or 3rd hand news reports, as to why he quit. So i dont see any need in bashing Punk for his decision because we know nothing of the facts. Good luck to him in whatever he chooses to do next. Hopefully a return isnt ruled out for the future. I dont think he wants his career to be overshadowed by his walkout, so i think he'll return eventually anyway..........but one way or the other that machine hes referred to in that promo has indeed kept turning, and his replacement has been produced.

Another thing I want to add is stop worrying about Punk or why he left. Let the man take time off and come back in a year or two.
Right now there are a lot of great things going on in WWE. Bryan will most likely be in the Wrestlemania Main Event and will hopefully win the title, we have a lot of great new talent with an insane amount of potential like The Sheild, The Wyatts, Cesaro, etc, and it's Wrestlemania season.
Am I disappointed that Punk Left? Yes, but give the guy some time and let him worry about himself. Just enjoy wrestling.

I was supporting him in WWE when others thought a push such as this one, was hopeless.

I haven't cared for him since his match with Lesnar. Barely even noticed he was still in WWE after Summerslam so I don't exactly miss him.

WWE needs to be careful, they're doing the same thing with Bryan what they did with Fandango in order to take away the spotlight from Punk. You could see on Raw people were already sick of chanting "Yes".

I've accepted it. It really sucks. As much as I am a Punk fan, I'm always a fan of pro wrestling fan first.
That being said, there are finally things to look forward to now. I can see and feel the future of this business. You can definitely see the shift in the company because it looks as if Cena is being focused away just a bit compared to Bryan, who is getting this huge push.
I just hope that they realize they need to establish ALOT of new stars because there are very few right now. That's why Punk leaving was such a blow.

We have no idea why Punk left. We are all just speculating. You're making some pretty wild assumptions based on the sole fact, literally the only fact, that CM Punk is no longer on TV.
Also, Bryan isn't the cure for my CM Punk ailment. I'm glad that is working out for you, but CM Punk is the best total package guy on the roster for me. Bryan has half of Punk's promo skill and half of his charisma. Just because Punk doesn't shake hands and kiss babies doesn't make him any less significant to me as a performer. If I cared about that sh*t I'd just support John Cena. Bryan's run has been great, and the crowd reactions very entertaining, but Bryan isn't ever going to be CM Punk for me. Yes, Bryan is insanely gifted and hard working as a technical performer, but from an overall entertainment standpoint, he's not even more entertaining than The Shield for me right now, and definitely not Bray Wyatt, who is on promo and gimmick fire. The chants are cute, but they're going to fade, and what you have at the end of the day is a Benoit type. Nothing wrong with that, but Bryan isn't Punk, not even close imo.
You say you're a fan, but you're jumping ship. You're essentially saying that you really don't like Punk enough to get behind him when he has something important to say, or not say. You're essentially turning your back on the guy and moving on without even knowing why he's sitting at home. So to each their own, but I'm a CM Punk fan. Whether he ever acknowledges that, as if he somehow needs to pander to me and make me feel wanted, or not, I'm behind him forever because of what he has given me in the form of blood, sweat and tears for the sake of my entertainment. CM Punk doesn't owe me a thing.
Bryan is winning the title at Mania 30 and he's going to get his moment. At which point, the fans will either cool off, or the WWE will find a way to work Cena over Bryan in the main event. Nothing wrong with either at this point. Bryan deserves to be champion with how he has gotten over. It's the job of the fans to stay behind him and the job of WWE to put him in compelling situations, which is what they have done by "holding him down" since SummerSlam. My best advice to Daniel Bryan fans is enjoy the ride.

I miss Punk ALOT.
I am enjoying Bryan's ascension, but there is a small part of me that wishes Punk was being put in his position instead because he earned it and it was never given to him. But whatever, because no matter what on a weekly basis Punk was one of my (and in most cases THE favorite) favorite parts of RAW. That's gone, and I want it back

He's professionally wreckless, If I was Vince how could I trust him to come back?! How could I trust him with a long term program?!
He has a history of throwing his toys out of the pram, What's the saying? "Screw me over once shame on you, Screw me over twice shame on me"...
CM Punk is a liability, he walked out on his job, his contract but most importantly and I think a lot of people are missing this point, CM Punk walked out on everyone of us.
And why?! Because he didn't get what he wanted. How many people in the locker room are getting everything that they want?! Do you see them throwing tantrums, no.
Like OP said "No one man is bigger than the WWE" & I think its fair to say he's burnt his last bridge with the company.
Having said that if he does come back? The only place I wanna see him perform is in the Diva's division because man CM Punk is the biggest Diva EVER!
