Well its back over to WCW for our next instalment of obscure Gimmicks.......the Shockmaster. Even without the disasterous debut......just what the hell was WCW thinking here?
its hilarious and he isn't that obscure because of the Debut from hell but still.....he wasn't around long.
Discuss......

Davey Boy's reaction in the background is my favorite part of the entire botched debut.

Even if poor Uncle Fred didn't fall on his "arse" the gimmick would have been stupid. How the heck is The Shockmaster suppose to even be a threat? Ooooooh it's Tugboat wearing a stormtroopers mask with glitter! I'm scared! No matter what, it would still be Tugboat and nobody cares about Tugboat!

I remember when i first got into wrestling, Id always watch it when it came on tv, in the morning before school after school, blah blah...and for some reason, on every show there was this Tugboat vs Jobber match, same one all the time, i think it was superstars, then wrestling challenge, then all american, and for some strange reason my mom would start watching with me when his match came on and I just remember my mom saying, "Is this the only guy that Wrestles?" lol, a had to be there moment, but it was funny at the time...It funnier because my mom is a pure Italian, so if you know Italians, you will laugh

Whoa, you can't just insult Tugboat like that, and I'm being serious. While his career didn't amount to much other than being a really over tag team champion, he is still one the best big men of all time.

I'm not sure I'd qualify him as obscure. I mean, sure it didn't last long but he's pretty well known. Of course it could be argued that he is I guess . Either way it provided one of the all time great wrestling moments. Typhoon was a useless worker unless he was being carried by Tenta and this was doomed to fail either way. This way was better because it'll be one of those wrestling moments that lives forever. @bashcrashwiley yeah Davey's reaction here is priceless. And Sid must have been a real pro to be able to continue with his promo with that much intensity.

WCW invented bedazzling with this stormtrooper helmet.
WWF had some awful gimmicks in the mid-90s, but WCW had much worse. Kevin Nash could have a bunch of appearances in these threads.

I love how his falling down is in the Botchamania credits. I wasn't watching WCW at the time, but when I caught up and saw this and Paul Roma in The Horsemen, I stayed with the WWE, for a bit.

WCW I guess still tried to save the guy after this. He won the War Games match with a bear hug I believe. Sure this was years ago, but even by that time people didn't submit to a bear hug.

Didn't Brock Lesnar beat Hulk Hogan with a bear-hug?? Or as he called it, "The Brock-Lock". Anyway, back on topic here. I didn't really watch WCW way back then. I was a WWF only guy. But from what I've seen over the years, this was one of WCW's biggest flops of all-time. Who knows how far this character would've went if he didn't wipe out. It was doomed from the get-go. Poor Fred Ottman.
