I recently resigned from my old job looking for a new job. I've got calls from both Lowe's, and Costco. Lowe's is less than a mile from my house. However, Costco is across town, but has Lowe's beat in pay by a few dollars. I've heard great things from both companies, which is why I applied to both. Luckily, the two jobs I wanted are the two jobs I'm deciding against (I applied for Starbucks, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Trader Joes), which I did not expect to happen. So, if you were in my shoes, which job would you pick? Any and all opinions are welcome.

How many dollars is "a few"? And how many miles is "across town"?

I would do both and apply for a male strip club and make that a part time job. Sometimes, a normal job just doesn't pay the bills

Ok and how much more are they paying per hour? The pay difference from both jobs is a couple dollars. I looked on Glassdoor for Costco pay, and the average pay is around 11-12 dollars. I haven't gone to my Costco orientation yet, so I would guess my starting pay would be around those numbers.

Go to Costco. The extra money you would make per hour is worth the 20 mile drive per day.

If your starting out and your below 18, you get minimum wage at almost every service job ie fastfood, department stores, etc... I would not count on getting two dollars above minimum wage when you start out.

The only reason I'm stuck between the two is that I've heard from numerous people that Costco doesn't take out taxes for checks, that you would have to pay for them by yourself. But I know it's illegal to not take out taxes, so I don't know.

I had a friend who was 19 work at Gordon foods and Sam Club for nearly a year. He got minimum wage which was $7.40, no pay increases and dealt with a lot of angry customers. Whether you work part time or time, minimum wage reigns supreme.

Whether you work part time or time, minimum wage reigns supreme. I had a friend who's worked at Kroger in the past (starting at 15, almost 16) making 7.50, and resigning with 8.50. Not sure, some companies handle pay differently.

Here's a better option. Get a nice suit, dress yourself up really well, and go apply to a bank for a teller position.
You'll definitely start above minimum wage and you'll have a lot more room for growth than you will at any of those others jobs you listed. This is, of course, assuming you have decent social skills and are personable. Being a teller is all about referrals and if you do well you can move up to banker and so forth. Those other jobs are pretty dead end for the most part. Plus a bank has a more comfortable environment... You're in a setting with professional employees and will never get swamped like a cashier at a retail store.

At Lowe's I would imagine you'd have to lift heavier things than at Costco. So take Costco.

I'd say Costco. You will be making more money in the long run despite having to drive a little further.

I would take the job at Costco personally.

I'd be into something with more variety, so Costco would make sense if it were me. However, you have to look at if the extra pay is worth it based on the gas/transportation costs for that particular job. If all you're doing is putting that extra cash towards the transportation, then it might be overall worth it for you to just take the job at Lowes since it's closer.
