I get a Google alert about REM, which when I see it's for them gets me pumped because I'm a long time fan right? Plus for those of you who don't know, REM broke up a few years ago. So seeing that REM made some news got me excited for a comeback album or whatever...
Then the story talks about how Mike Mills, former REM bassist broke the news that David Letterman's retiring in 2015.
Now I've always been a Conan guy, but Dave's always been my second favorite late night guy. He's always came across as legitimate to me. Plus, all of the Bill Murray appearances are must watches for me, there's not way that Bill won't be his final guest, NO WAY.

I like Dave but I'm also okay with him moving on... I'd love if they convinced Colbert (or Jon Stewart!) to take over for him.

Good riddance to that selfish, egotistical, unfunny arrogant prick.

Good riddance to that selfish, egotistical, unfunny arrogant prick. But that's his gimmick! And while he might be all of those things (unfunny is relative) he's never tired to hide anything or lie. I don't wanna get into a whole Conan/Leno deal here, but Letterman's comments on the whole ordeal were the most insightful, well though out, eloquent commentary that was out there at the time. Also, he had Beavis and Butt-Head on the show. And if you haven't seen the scene from Beavis and Butt-Head where one of them imagines the two of them as Dave (Butt-Head) and Paul (Beavis) then you're missing out on one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

I'd be all for Craig Ferguson taking over. Otherwise...meh. Dave was always very hit and miss for me and more often than not he was a miss.

I actually thought that his former underling, Drew Carey might be in line before Fergs. Putting a woman in that position wouldn't be a horrible idea. Handler's too... I dunno, slutty to be taken seriously. They could go the NBC route and just lazily throw an SNL person up there, but thank Kurzweil that Tina Fey probably has an iron clad NBC developmental deal. Hmmmm I dunno what women I'd put on my short list for the job, but now that I've typed it I think it seems like a plausible, ratings grabbing idea.

Craig's my all-time favorite late night host, but with that being said, I don't think I'd like to see him take over for Dave. If he did, I think his show would either be quickly canceled or neutered, neither of which I'd want to see.

i've never been a big late night kinda guy, but letterman always rubbed me the wrong way. especially his involvement with harvey pekar. still notable that he's retiring.

I always preferred Leno or Conan, but it sucks to hear he's gonna call it quits.

I'm a Conan guy and I don't mind Fallon in small doses. I always liked Letterman over Leno when I was younger but I haven't watched either in a very long time at this point. Meh.

I'll miss him since I am a fan although it isn't that shocking considering his age.
I'd love for Chelsea Handler to take over. I mean her show will be ending this year so imo she should be on the short list of candidates to replace him.

No. F*ck him, f*ck that fruity-ass Paul Shaffer, f*ck "Super Dave" Osborne, f*ck the bloated unfunny corpse of Larry "Bud" Melman, and f*ck those East coast college douchebags who think he's the best. That's why my name is what it is.

I've always loved Letterman...He seemingly never gave a crap. That's why I liked him.
It'd be awesome if Craig replaced him, but I don't see it happening.

Oh...I thought this would be about Dave Grohl for some reason.
On topic - I don't get his humour...it can't be an American thing as I find other American outlets for comedy and humour funny, but the late night guys are a big swing and a miss for me. Especially Conan O'Brien.

I don't watch late night TV anymore. When I did it was always Letterman. He had a great run on NBC and CBS and it's only fitting that he retires now. He's plenty old enough and his son is getting older so I'm sure he wants to spend what time he has left with him and his wife. Thanks for all the laughs Dave. And how can anyone hate on Dave when he was the one who gave us this!?!
