Saturday April 26th, 2014 saw Hardcore Roadtrip attempt to pull off a double header in London Ontario. Sometime during the second show the Promoter's wife was seen packing up the merch and word spread around that the Promoter had a medical emergency, it was revealed that he skipped out with the gate. Which included advance sales for the promotions announced show on May 31st. Here are a couple of articles I have found about the incident: slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/2014/04/27/21631841.htmlslam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/2014/04/27/21631651.htmlslam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/2014/04/27/21631726.html"Promoters" like this make me sick. As early as Friday he cancelled at D-Von due to low "Advance Ticket" sales. D-Von's deal was that he was to be paid as soon as he got off the plane. He then cut down appearances of several talents who were scheduled to appear on both shows, as a way to save money. Simple rule to live by if you are going to run a wrestling show. Don't even look to book a venue or talent unless you have the money to pay for everything up front. Relying on the Gate to make ends meet never works, and from the sounds of things this "Promoter" was even trying to make these show balance by still selling tickets to upcoming events. Since this story broke I have talked to Leah Von Dutch, who I have interviewed and talked to on several occasions and the first thing she said to me was "See you in Kitchener on May 31st" She was scheduled to take part in the upcoming Hardcore Roadtrip show, and is now going to defend the PWA Women's Belt she recently won on that day.

This guy is a crook who has done this before according to Meanie. But if promoters followed your advice.....you do realize a crap load of indy companies would not be running shows? Hell....promoters who run conventions depend on gates to pay for talents. Its how the business is run. There are very few that just have all this cash on them. They depend on gates, food, merch, etc to pay for everything.

I have worked for several indy promotions in the last number of years. One guy has watched the quality of talent willing to work for him greatly decline since he had a couple of shows where he didn't pay talent. The promotion is still running, and the guy who did the stiffing isn't doing anything but booking the shows. His partners have taken over all the other aspects of the promotion.
Another guy I worked for made sure that only started looking to book shows once he all the funds in place for the talent he wanted to bring in. He would then look for a venue and book the show far enough away that he could cover ALL the costs associated without having to rely on the gate to make ends meet. The money made at the gate would then lay the ground work for the next show. This is how things SHOULD be done, sadly too many guys book shows hoping to make money on the gate, which rarely, if ever works.
Hopefully the guys and gals effected by this promoter in London can eventually recover some of the money owed them, but I highly doubt that. I commend all the fans who chipped in to make sure that the guys and gals were able to make their flights and other arrangements.

But generally the marks pay the promoter the money for the name they want and the promoter makes the booking. Its just best for everyone if you only pay half up front and half after they wrestle. There are several stories from several names that take promoter's monies and dont show for the booking. Or they show and refuse to wrestle unless they get more money or a change in an opponent, etc.

If you're a promoter and you cannot pay the boys then you're a ing **** and don't deserve to be in the business.
