Smallville was a MUCH better fit. Superman was teen coming to terms with his identity, powers and place in the world while facing down small town shenanigans. He was a teen Superman and the shows survival says that people wanted to see that. It was still Superman in some way shape or form. plus it was fresh and fertile storytelling ground......Gotham isn't IMHO. Bruce Wayne is 8 in Gotham......He wont ever be Batman in this show. Agreed. I feel like Jim Gordon just isn't an interesting or in-depth enough character to carry an entire show. Watching Superman grow up was very unique and interesting. This is a generic cop drama with Batman characters. Donal Logue is a big reason I've tuned in to this show.

I'm a big fan of Logue's(and how he wears his Irish heritage on his sleeve) Blade, Vikings, Sons Of Anarchy, Grounded For Life.....its all good. He is good here too.....just not good enough to keep Mr J hooked.

I've become almost desperate to find something new and entertaining to watch, and I'd like to catch a good show early instead of hearing about how great a show is mid way through it's run.. So I gave 'Gotham' a shot.. Not sure if I'll check out episode 3.. It's lacking. I am a huge fan of the backdrop though, the police station especially. It's very true in nature, the setting actually looks like Gotham City.

I like the show Gotham, but I hate the way they introduced Penguin. Even my friend who hasn't watched the show but I showed him the pictures of the cast and him being a bigger fan of the Batman comics and knows way more about the comics than I do, he even said, "WTF did they do to Penguin?".
BTW, how old is Bruce Wayne in the show? I forgot if he was 8 or 12 years old.

I think Bruce is 10 and the same age as Selena.
Could Donal Logue actually survive this series and not get killed? Everything I see him in he ends up dying.

Still haven't seen any of Gotham; think I'll wait till it hits Netflix I think; looking forward to it though! Just dont know about Gordon being the main character - not sure if he's enough, now if it was set in say Year 1, or even a year or two before then that'd be fine. Have Batman showing up but very briefly and only very occasionally. But I'll give it a go and see if Im into it.
Still need to start Arrow too, and Flash starts very soon too - damn DC are kicking up into gear recently!

I'll have to rewatch the pilot cause I can't recall if they mention his age but I know when they were casting, Bruce was listed as 10 but the actor playing him is 13. If they don't actually specify how old he is and if Gotham is successful and can last a few years I think it'd be cool if when the actor turns 17/18 have him start on his way to becoming Batman.

Ah, he's listed as 10. Well then that's stupid cause I don't remember Selina Kyle ever being older than Bruce Wayne in the comics.

I didn't think Gotham would get such a bad rep already, but I agree with it. it's a cop show with a bunch of forced Batman references.

Rewatching "The Dark Knight Returns" again... so brilliant. Maybe my all-time favorite Batman movie, animated and otherwise. "Just remembering a promise, Alfred." "Which was...?" " Never again."

" Never again." yes indeed its excellent. It wont however displace Mask Of The Phantasm for me......which contains the best pure Joker moment ANYWHERE......

Just started watching "Gotham" and so far I like it. Even though we won't see Bruce become Batman in the series right now I'm still interested in seeing where they go with this series. I remember people bashed on Arrow when it started so I'm giving this a chance.

Arrow is such a damn good show. I can't wait to see what happens this season, episode one was really good. The ending shocked me.
Spoilers below...
I'm assuming it was Ra's Al Ghul that killed Sara. Really hate to see her go, but it makes for a great coming season.
