Wow, it's sad to see *the place where Hulk Hogan gorilla-pressed the 50-foot tall, 10-ton Andre the Giant over his head and slammed him through the ground into the earth's core is now only a shell of its former radiance. On the plus side, Ford Field is magnificent.
*Based on Hulk Hogan's perception of what happened at WM 3.

Man, that video was sad to watch. That memorable venue has just been neglected and forgotten about. I wonder if there's even a reason to save it at this point. From reading the article, a Canadian developer owns the site but I would like to see them sell it to WWE if at all possible.
Maybe they can save it and repair it and turn it back into the great stadium it once was. It is certainly a memorable site and holds a special place in wrestling history, and it would be a shame to see it get demolished and tore down.
I think WWE should buy it, fix it up and keep it as it's own. If any company has the money and resources to do so, they do. It deserves to saved and preserved.
I would love to see WrestleMania 33 be held there, if possible. It would mark 30 years since the historical WrestleMania 3 and see if they can beat their own attendance record. How awesome would that be??

I read an article a few weeks ago about the new owners, and unless I misread, I believe he stated he wants to keep the arena and refurbish it. He's selling it's assets to completely remodel. The issue with the roof is that they deflated it to cut costs, and when it's deflated obviously the weather will have its way with it. The owner stated the roof was not fixable, obviously, but they plan to install a new one. As far as I remember the owner owns a sports team, maybe hockey if I remember right, and wants to use it for the team and for concerts and events as well.

These rotting old arenas and stadiums literally break my heart. The Houston Astrodome, former home of the Oilers, is just sitting there falling apart. Such a shame.

^^^ lol I thought they knocked this down a while ago When I was doing research on demolished professional wrestling venues, I was surprised the Pontiac Silverdome is still standing. Since the Citrus Bowl is being renovated, anything is possible for the Silverdome. I hope something is done to save such an iconic stadium. It would be useful to use it as a training/practice facility the next time Ford Field hosts a Super Bowl. The Pittsburgh Steelers used the Silverdome as a practice facility when Super Bowl XL was held at Ford Field. While the Hoosier Dome/RCA Dome was demolished, all of the other WrestleMania venues still stand as of this writing. Won't be the case when the Atlanta Falcons' new stadium is completed and the Georgia Dome is demolished.

These monstrous relics of the past are, and always have been, quite a point of fascination for me. It's just amazing to see what was undoubtedly such a lively, historical building fall into shambles (and to see how incredibly quickly it happens as well.)
I always think of the contractors who likely spent years planning meticulously and then carrying out all that work. It's likely a career defining job, and everything they did sits in ruin for no reason other than neglect. It's just really interesting to think about.

That really is sad, such a historic site for sports, and of course Wrestlemania. Unfortunately its in Detroit, which pretty much looks like the inside of the Silverdome in general. Its like dead malls, all of the life and stories that took place inside those walls are just ghosts from the past.
And as an aside, if I had spent 20 years talking about the most important moment in my career I could easily mistake Superdome for Silverdome. I honestly don't blame Hogan for the simple slip.

It's so stupid when people spend millions of dollars to demolish an iconic stadium and build a new one. Or in this case, just totally neglect the old one.
I wish someone would buy the Silverdome and fix it up.
