Part one of the much talked about Jim Ross podcast with Shawn Michaels is up now. A good portion of the show was dedicated to talk of the streak. Shawn Michaels said that he was shocked when the streak was broken. He said that everyone was stunned. He said that just one person makes the call and as much as everyone wants to think otherwise, it's just one guy that makes the call.
Shawn revealed that the decision to end the streak came just 4 hours before the show. Ross said that he saw The Undertaker at the Hall of Fame and he hugged him and asked him how many more matches he thought he had in him. Taker's response was "I don't know, i'll let you know in a few hours." Shawn said that all the things about Taker being beat up are true but it still had no bearing on the outcome of the match. Shawn said that in his personal opinion he would have liked to have seen Taker unbeaten and then retire.
Ross asked Shawn if he thinks that Taker has wrestled his last match. Shawn said he doesn't know but he knows that Taker was banged up afterwards and Taker told him that he'd contact Shawn in a few weeks.
Shawn also gave his thoughts on CM Punk. Ross asked him if he could relate to Punk leaving after feeling burned out. Shawn says that he totally understands although he doesn't know all of the inside stuff that happened between Punk and the company but he can definitely relate to how he might feel.

Retiring undefeated would have been a book that was never finished.
Interesting news.

Ending the streak was one of the dumbest decisions Vince has ever made. The streak was 21 years old and something that will never be replicated again and the Undertaker retiring undefeated at Mania would've been perfect.

He should have gone out to someone that needed it though, not his buddy brock.

The Ending of The Streak was the stupidest thing Vince has done. I see it as a waste of 22 years. Especially considering how the last match was rushed together with no real build up at all.

Still salty over Brock winning, but pretty fascinating stuff. Thought something like that would be determined a decent time in advance.

Glad it ended and Brock was the perfect choice.
4 hours before show time is pretty late in the game to make such a big decision though.

Of course Michaels understands how Punk feels. He was a huge baby back in the day because he wasn't being put in the main event and made champion like he thought he deserved

Surprised it was only 4 hours before. That's a big decision to make, and it made wrestlemania xxx unforgettable. Interesting read...

I was listening to Ross's podcast with Jim Cornett on the line and he actually had a pretty damn cool fantasy storyline -
In a nutshell (Ross's idea for those who didn't listen): it's WM32 and the streak is still alive, Undertaker wins the Royal Rumble and challenges Cena for the title or retirement. Everyone's wondering will Cena go over? Will the streak end? Will Undertaker retire? Taker goes on to win the title at WM32 and the next night on RAW leaves the belt in the centre of the ring, says he respects the belt too much to be a half-ass champ, he's calling it his last ride, end of the road sort of speech. Now WWE can set up a tournament and have the main event for the next PPV already written, Taker retires with the streak intact.
That would have been cool booking.

Hmmmmmm...like I said, Vince's decision and not UT. I took the 'one person and one person only makes that decision' stuff to mean Undertaker. Vince wouldn't make UT do something he didn't want to at this stage.

4 hours? Only? That's weird... It was a big decision to make, a stupid decision. Brock didn't deserve this. CM Punk should've end the streak or HBK. Brock is only a part timer... I was really shocked. But I have gotten over it.

Vince might of made the call but Taker had to be 100% ok with it. If taker truly didn't want to do it he wouldn't have. He could have no showed. Like that would ever happen but what would they do? They'd never do a breach of contract type deal against Taker or get legal about it. I just wish Taker wasn't such an MMA mark or he'd of probably said no. If I ever find a time machine first thing I'm doing is going back and making sure Punk beat Taker at Mania 29. Think how different everything would have been, the majority would feel it was a fitting end that went to a well deserved guy with a good build with all the Bearer stuff happening. Punk would still be with the company probably. I don't think beating Taker was a demand of Punks, but like on his DVD he said he asked for an outrageous amount of money and perks, and he said he told Vince the reason he did wasn't because he was selfish but because he wouldn't give a guy that kind of contract and not have him be THE guy. If Punk had beat Taker they couldn't refuse him being the top guy in the company. That's probably why he lost. As much of a baby that makes Punk seem or whatever, it comes down too he really was at the time the best in the company. By leaps and bound. Sorry for the outburst the streak and all the possibilities that could and should have happened gets me heated
