I think that I can safely assume that most of us on this forum are adult men and I may be one of the older dudes at 41. I got my son interested in wrestling figures a few years ago but as time passed has seemed to have lost interest. Recently, I have purchased figures for myself after seeing the WM 30 Brett Hart at TRU! I narrow my purchases down to flashback figures and guys that wrestled back in the 80's. I can't wait for Flair, Andre, and the basic Ted DiBiase. Before this, the last figures I purchased were AWA Remco figures and LJN when I was a teenager in the 80's.
Now to look at my original question ... I really like to design and build wrestling rings and quite possibly turn the hobby into a side business. It makes sense that I buy wrestling figures to pose and advertise my rings. Why do you guys buy figures and why are you in the hobby of collecting?

For myself, its a way to relive my childhood and brings back wonderful memories from these real life super heroes. Many on here buy for resale value. But I do it because its fun and not to do it for profit.
Something about having an action figure immortalized in plastic forever from these amazing and iconic moments from the past brings a huge smile to my face! This is why I do it at least! =-)

It's just something to do, I guess. I like collecting stuff. I'm a massive fan of wrestling and I find Mattel's work to be amazing as far as collectors pieces go. They capture the characters so well, especially in their Elite line. Sometimes I appreciate their work so much that I just have to take it home with me. I tried to convince myself that I'm too old to be buying figures time after time, but I just find myself coming back. I took years off my hobby and missed out on so many great figures. I regret that now. Being 20, it's not a hobby I like to admit to, but you know what, life is too short so just do what you enjoy. If you enjoy playing with figures, then play with figures. As long as you're not harming anyone, who gives a damn? lol. I'm glad that I have fellow collectors here to share my collection with. If it wasn't for this website, I don't think I would be drawn back into collecting, so thank you WF

I do that too and that because wrestling game have suck since HCTP. Can I see your setup? Your audio/video Titantron system? Like do you have custom entrance and ring and what not? I'm 25, and when your around I think age 23 and done with college it when you stop caring what other people think of you. However I am no fat lazy bum or what not I spent my other free time working out at the gym. Beside you can do things that no wrestling game can do only because there is no PC wrestling games with cool mods yet...

They were there for me through a lot of tough times when I was younger and they'll be here for me through the tough times now. It's a comfort thing. It's also an addictive, collector personality thing, but that seems less poetic.

I view them as a 3D snapshot of a moment in time - really, an artistic "sculpture" that captures the way a wrestler looked at one given point in their career....
I collect some figures to keep MOC, because I have hopes of getting them autographed one day.... others I purchase with the intention of opening, because I enjoy creating displays that celebrate and honor my favorite wrestlers & wrestling eras.
I collect all brands of wrestling figures/toys; to me, I enjoy looking at my collection and watching the evolution of these toys go from LJN, Galoob, Toy Biz, Hasbro, JAKKS, all the way up to Mattel.... they are all representative of the time in which they were made & they are all special.

I don't know but with all the money I've spent on figures, I could've bought another car.

My grandfather, who is 81, collects old lead toy soldiers (circa 1930s and 40s). He has a crap load of them! Many are in mint condition. He even subscribes to some magazine just for old men like him who collect these things. He told me he collects because it reminds him of his awesome childhood and makes him feel like a kid again. I feel the same way. In all his years of collecting, he says, he's never sold a single toy soldier. He did sell an entire coffee tin of them when he was a kid, and he regrets it to this day because their were some rare toys in there, he says. I never plan on selling either. I buy if the price is worth it to me, and that's all I really care about. I couldn't care less if the resale value goes up or down.

Yeah, i love being able to control everything in the company, right down to the weapons used that aren't in any of the games (Barbed Wire Boards, Thumbtacks, Broken Glass) and the exact way a storyline is carried out, promos, etc. As for my setup. it's nothing special. I get out the old Titantron Live and use it as a stage, use a Mattel Basic Ring (soon to be replaced by the ASR) and the usual Ring Steps/Announcers Table with a bell and some chairs hidden by part of the barricades (From E26 Roman Reigns) and i play audio, video and sound effects from my HDTV which has my PC hooked up to it. In the audio/video department i have titantrons for every wrestler (including the customs for me and my friends) as well as exit themes for everyone. In the sound effect department, i have everything from pops and boos, to ring bells, to chants (ex. Let's Go Cena!/Cena Sucks!) to the nWo's spraypaint being used. i use all of that for my fed KWF. trons/exit music are played through Media Player Classic and sounds are played through the dated but working Cool Edit Pro 2.1. everything works out well and realistic.

for me it started as a child. I got my first lot of figures when I was about 10. Now for us aussies, things are a little bit different. Back in the late 80s/90s we were about 2/3 months behind on everything. I used to get the WWF magazine every month. And I remember my mother going all over the place looking for wrestling figures, they were Hasbro, and I ended up with Texas Tornado, Hulk, Typhoon, another Hogan, and Sgt. I thought they were the best thing in the world.
Then I got into basketball. I started collecting figures as a teenager again, with WCW/NWO toybiz Sting. And I was hooked and have been every since. Why do I still collect? BECAUSE I CAN... I have the money to get what I want (within reason) and like most children from the 80s, I love the toys I had as a child. So I guess for me, I collect cause I enjoy collecting. I like figures, cause it represents my childhood, and I still enjoy wrestling today....

I'm 23, and I love wrestling. I Always have. When I first started buying, I didn't think I'd get to the point I'm at now. But I buy all the Undertaker's without hesitation. He is the man. But like someone said earlier, it makes me happy, brings me back to my care-free days as a kid slamming figures through tables and kicking out of ten finishers. It a way for me to get lost all over again. Especially when a lot of the guys who have figs either aren't wrestling anymore or have passed away. There's nothing better than trying to recreate a moment in history or evening making one that you've always wanted to see hence why I keep my CM Punk na Stone Cold Steve Austin vest
