Just had a thought as I was looking at the new Elite Rowan and wishing it had cloth overalls...
I know Mattel has repeatedly stated that the cloth accessories are too expensive to produce...but then they go and pump out Barbie dolls, who are bigger, and nearly ALL come with clothing of some sort, and also seem to be less expensive then WWE Elite figures.
Any thoughts here?

they answered this already about rsc exclusives anyway: Anyone that thinks soft goods and belts are breaking the bank are out of their minds. This is the company that makes barbies decked out in soft goods for less than elite figures and hot wheels made out of actual metal, not shiny plastic paint, and sells them for a DOLLAR. And can spread the fabric, material and set up cost on these items over a production at least 25X that of the RSC Exclusive....

I really don't care for most cloth goods. I think most characters look better with molded clothing and the idea of putting fabric on a plastic figure has always turned me off. I'm glad we got a new mold instead of a far too loose and weird looking cloth jumpsuit on an old body.
Why can they do it for Barbies? Because Barbies all have literally the SAME body. Maybe if you wanted a Rey Mysterio head and cloth attire on a brown Kane body this could work, but as long as they're making unique molds and staying true to scale it's not gonna happen

Bill has said on a few occasions that its pricey to do soft goods because they pump out 25X more Barbies than WWE figs. So they get a way bigger discount on the soft goods with Barbie. Barbie is also a Mattel brand. Therefore, don't pay licensing fees whereas they do with WWE.

They make an elite 4 John Morrison with a fur coat, sunglasses, an extremely detailed attire, see-through packaging, a stand, name tag, and a whole new boot mold and head scan AND charge it for a lesser price than an Ultimate Warrior elite which has no accessories at all.
MATTEL logic

Funny you mention this because I was thinking the same thing earlier. I always get my daughter those monster high dolls which include clothes and other accessories, and the prices are in the 11.99 - 19.99 range.

Remember all the leather jackets on Jakks figures? Garbage. I literally mean garbage; they looked like they were wearing garbage bag slickers (please feel free to quote me with a screencap of Dead Like Me when Rube says "You need a slicker!", I couldn't find one and I'm too lazy to make one myself). EDIT: found one! There's a time and a place for soft goods, and Rowan's jumpsuit isn't one of them.

So were paying more now for less? Welcome to every aspect of life in 2014 The American way! I am so grateful that Mattel took over the line, they've outdone Jakks in every way imaginable. However, recently decisions they've made really make me think if they really care. They've been so careless with quite a few of the new figures, including many of the exclusives that we're expected to pay premium prices for. It makes me wonder now if they're being genuine or if their reasons are just excuses to cheat us. They came crashing into the scene with all these belts and accessories, many of them various soft goods like shirts and jackets, and hooked many of us! Now, four years later, it seems that they appear to have gotten cheap and lazy on many accounts and are trying to pass it off as cutting costs. Four years later many of us have spent so much time on money buying and collecting the figures that it's kind of hard to call it quits and Mattel has been in the game long enough to not know that.

Rubber/plastic is much cheaper to produce than a cotton. I prefer cloth, however rubber isn't bad all the time. I actually prefer it for the robes such as goldust. However, dm flair does look awesome though...

Welcome to every aspect of life in 2014 The American way! I am so grateful that Mattel took over the line, they've outdone Jakks in every way imaginable. Mattel has not outdone JAKKS in terms of Variety, Distribution, and Volume of figures.... Mattel's WWE line has been very limited in all these areas, in comparison to JAKKS. I agree that they've taken JAKKS quality and stepped it up to the next level. In response to the original question - just remember, someone actually has to sit and sew each shirt, pants, jacket, robe, tassle, or whatever soft outfit that requires any type of stitching (I don't think the machines can make those things automatically). And how do they put the logos/designs on? Are they iron-on type things? Printed? Which means - someone with at least a moderate amount of SKILL has to sit and sew thousands of these things.... which is probably why they are made overseas (skilled American labor would probably be way too expensive to make them). But even the Chinese labor (or whevever they make these things) is probably more expensive when actual sewing skills are involved, and not just snapping arms/legs/torsos together....
