Hi guys. In June I'm going to the Wizard World Comic Con in Philly. The past week or so it seems like everyone is telling me to be careful because of the crime in Philly. I was just wondering if anyone has attended any events at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and what you thought of the surrounding area. I've been in some shady neighborhoods but I'm more familiar with New York.
The reviews I've seen seem good and the area looks alright in pictures. I guess I'm wondering if I can be relaxed outside or if I really need to keep my guard up.

You should be fine. If an area looks bad, just try to avoid it and be safe. Other than that, you'll be perfectly fine.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Even here in New York, some of the shadiest looking places I've walked through generally turn out to be ok if you mind your own business.

Make sure you're carrying at all times. Whether it be a gun... or drugs, to throw and run away, if you feel threatened.

The convention center is in a nice area. There's a parking garage a short walk across the street from the center.
The only people that will be around the center will be comic nerds like yourself. And comic con is in the middle of the day. Only protection it seems like you'll need is sun screen.
Philadelphia is a crap hole. But you won't get killed. Like any major city there is good and bad. But philadelphia is dirty. Trash everywhere. People have no respect for the city. And as a society themselves.
Stick to the burbs.
