I watched No Way Out 2002 last night on the network and after a match, I believe it was Taker/Rock, they flashed to WWF New York and Mr Perfect was there. His 30 second promo explained in a nutshell, his 2002 stint......well perfectly. It was nothing but jibberish. It was so sad. I didn't even wanna watch the rest of the event. He made no sense. At one point he dropped his jacket and showed his back to reveal a wire going to his earpiece. King yelled "Curt's wired!" Obviously referring to the fact that he was fried out of his mind.
It breaks my heart to think about what his run in 2002 could have and should have been.

I don't recall that particular segment but regardless I'm still pissed at Curt for dying of a cocaine overdose.
He never should've put that sh*t up his nose. Curt Hennig should still be with us today and helping train developmental talent at the Performance Center.

Yep. There's so many things he could be doing with the company and making my viewing time better. He would have made a great commentator. Better than JBL and the washed up King. He could have worked an angle while being paired with his son. Or like you said, behind the scenes at the perf center, booking agent, or producer.
I forgot all about the segment too until I saw it. I wish I hadn't.

I remember getting REALLY pissed off with how his run was going in 2002. "You've got Mr. Perfect on the roster, ing use him". I don't recall that particular segment but regardless I'm still pissed at Curt for dying of a cocaine overdose. He never should've put that sh*t up his nose. Curt Hennig should still be with us today and helping train developmental talent at the Performance Center. I don't think it was an overdose, it was an allergic reaction to the dose that he took. I've always been under the impression that he was using it because of his back pain.

He just wasn't himself. Looking back on it, maybe they couldn't use him to his full potential. I remember being pissed then. All my friends were. We've beaten the dead horse but his match on Raw with Austin was so awful. And he had such a great showing in the rumble. Great ovation, everything.

I was expecting big things when he came back in the Rumble and was schooling everybody. You know where the story goes from there.

He was ON at the rumble. He didn't physically look great but the performance he put on was up to expectations for the first time since he left the WWF.
Such a shame he couldn't keep it up.

He turned it up BIG time at the RR.....but everything Hennig had done since 1998 arguable was crap. He was a shadow of the guy that tore the ring up in WWE from 1989-1993.
Lots of folks(myself included)wanted Angle vs Perfect @ WM18.....but lord knows what state Hennig would have been in come showtime. His rampant drug use combined with painkiller abuse and fondness of Somas had ruined him.]
A dreadful pity too.

Yeah, I remember that 'cutaway' at WWF New York, and he looked good, but I had no idea what he was saying, why he took off his jacket, and why he just smirked at the camera afterwards, it was a head-scratcher, for sure.
What could've been...

What could've been... Then he made fun of someone's teeth and hair. Angle vs Perfect at 18 would have been epic of Hennig was even 80%. But instead he was in the dark match that I've actually never seen before. If anyone knows where I can find that footage I'd appreciate it.

Just listen to him here in his promo before he starts to punch Tazz. He is mumbling stuff, totally lost. Again, the King makes fun of him in a way with saying "ever notice his perfect grammar" when it wasn't at all.

I'm not going to sugar coat it...he died from sticking too much cocaine up his nose while also being on various painkillers and steroids. What a waste.

I think an allergic reaction to drugs is an overdose. But whatever.
I remember Hennig in WCW, then seeing him in the WWF was cool, and my memory has been fuzzy since, but I liked his demeanor. He went to TNA shortly after his return. Don't know how that went, but wish he could have stayed around. Mr Perfect was a great gimmick, something about Bobby Roode reminds me of Curt, which is probably why Roode's finisher for a while was a fisherman's suplex pin.

I'd love to have seen Curt go back to commentary when he retired. Would be the perfect heel to mock Cole while boasting how the current superstars are good but not quite as perfect as him. And of course the pencil flip.

had to go watch the segment,as I hadn't seen this PPV since it first aired, and didn't remember.
I see what you mean. while not outwardly trashed,he does ramble on about stuff other than the question he was asked, and JR sounds a bit uncomfortable in his sign off to the segment.

My pants are getting tighter just thinking about it.

I've always found Hennig to be kind of awkward on the mic... he always had a lot of charisma, but he only really nailed a handful of promos.
And while I fondly remember his 2002 return... looking back, the guy was a mess. It's a shame.

This is slightly off-topic and I am honestly not trying to be funny here. However, in one of those Legends of Wrestling roundtable discussions Michael Hayes mentioned how Curt Hennig used to "stuff" the front of his tights. I guess when HBK did this on Raw to Jim Ross it was actually a rib mocking Hennig.
