Now before you guys start bashing me let me first say that I'm an 18 year old kid who has overcome drug and alcohol abuse so this is a big deal to me.
I know it might not be a high school diploma but after 2-3 years of battling demons and constantly hearing that I would never go anywhere in life this is truly the happiest day of my life.
I can finally move on, get a job and become the man I know I can be. No amount of words can describe it.
You guys could probably care less but this forum is my home away from home and helps keep me sane so why not post about it. Am I right? Lol

Hey man, I'm a GED man myself. I went through some serious YOU rebel stuff when I was a late teen, simply refused to be told what to do. Think it stemmed from the complete falling apart of the family, but who knows. I got my GED, started some college courses, holding down two jobs, I know how it is. I did it my way, too. Congrats, keep moving.

Congrats....but dont stop there. A High School diploma will only open so many doors. A GED will only open a percentage of them. You've taken the right steps so keep the momentum and go to college, tech school or some sort of trade to get a degree/certificate and push yourself. Remember, all you have to do is Bolieve!

Thanks a lot guys it really means a lot.
I'm planning on going to ITT tech in a few months. As of right now I can't afford college so that's the beat option to keep moving forward.
Once again it really truly means a lot.

I'm a GED guy as well. Got into a lot of fights in highschool and just thought it was a waste of time. I was young and stupid. I'm currently enrolled in college working towards my degree with a 3.5 GPA with a work ethic I never thought was possible.
Getting my GED really was the best thing to ever happen to me. Dropping out of highschool was the best thing I could have ever done because it truely opened my eyes to how important an education is. I don't think I would even be in college if I skated by in highschool and somehow got my diploma because I never would have appreciated how valuable getting an education and getting a degree is. I'm sure it sounds silly for me to say that the best thing to ever happen to me was dropping out of high school but I really really believe that it was.
It's something I could talk about for days and I wish I could talk to other kids and young adults who either are thinking about dropping out of highschool and helping them get back on track to stay in highschool and get there diploma or to speak with young adults who dropped out of highschool and are interested in pursuing a GED.
Congrats by the way I'm glad that you accomplished your academic goals and I hope you further your education in either a college or a trade school.

Congrats on getting your GED! But I can't stand people wanting sympathy from others just because they overcame drug and alcohol I don't care if I sound a bit of a jerk, but I never did any of that stuff so where's my sympathy and endorsement. No where because I don't ask for it. Anyways congrats on your GED you're taking steps into a better future and life.

No where because I don't ask for it. Anyways congrats on your GED you're taking steps into a better future and life. The fact that you never did any of it is why you don't understand how big of an accomplishment it is to overcome it. Good on you for never going down that path (I never did either), but addiction isn't a choice, starting is. The decision to start was dumb, and I'm sure you've done some dumb stuff in your life, too. Point being, it's far harder to stay clean than it is to get clean. And as for where your endorsement is, it's in your body that you didn't destroy. Also, you shouldn't assume you know how or why someone has done what they've done. Not only have you not lived their life, but everyone reacts to things differently. My brain isn't wired the same as yours, so if I went through a horrible breakup, my natural reaction would be entirely different than if you went through the same exact breakup. One last thing, if you read the paragraph without any predisposition of cynicism, you can clearly see he wasn't looking for praise from us but sharing something he's proud of. He's excited and wanted to tell someone; simple as that. Anyway, congrats on the GED. I'm surprised to see how many of us there are, considering how we're usually looked down upon. Fact is, high school diploma or GED, it all means the same thing. It's like $10 as two $5s or 10 $1s; end of the day, it all spends the same.
