I know this is pretty far off but I'm super pumped. I absolutely love the first one. I hope it ends up being a direct sequel and Charlie, Perlman, Kikuchi and crew all return. www.imdb.com/news/ni57417730/

But seriously, this is exciting news. I saw the first in IMAX and loved it. Hopefully the earlier release date coupled with it being a sequel will prove better for this one. I can't wait!

Looking forward to it. It was basically what I was hoping the newest Godzilla would be.
Can't wait.

Yeah, Pacific Rim ruined Godzilla for me to some degree. I was hoping for that high octane smash popcorn flick with Godzilla and it just didn't have the same grandiose feel or charm to it. Pacific Rim kept you engaged the entire time because they had the gas peddle to the floor and Godzilla was more of a steady climb to the climax. I'm by no means an expert on monster flicks, as I've only seen stuff like Cloverfield and the last two Godzilla films, but I do know that I love everything about Pacific Rim. Plus, Pacific Rim has the advantage of the Voltron/Evangelion elements, which engage the audience since the humans aren't bystanders.

I can't be the only one who hated the first one. Just another generic robot movie.

I ADORE monster flicks, and the old Godzilla movies were a key point in me wanting to make movies, and I was pretty let down with the newest one. The 2nd act nearly had me fall asleep. 1st and 3rd acts were great -- but yes, Pacific Rim just rocked it. Humans don't HAVE to be bystanders with Godzilla (even the 98 version did this acceptably) -- but I also agree, PR made them the key point, while still giving the monsters a purpose.

I can't be the only one who hated the first one. Just another generic robot movie. The movie had a lot of flaws sure, but over all I thought it was a great popcorn movie. I like going to see a movie in theater like Pacific Rim, they have lots of eye candy. When the first Rim was released I remember it did very well in overseas markets so I was sure they would make a sequel. Now that I know a part two is in the works I will buy those Neca toys for sure.

Is it just me that doesnt see the point of making a second one? In the first one they closed the bridge allowing Kaiju's to come into our world, so in Pacific Rim 2 it becomes unclosed? I don't get how they make a sequel without having a ridiculously stupid looking plot.

A second one isnt needed but more than welcome. It can fill the very dissapointing void Godzilla left us with. Hopefully people go and see this sequel domestically.
