Why was this show cancelled? Prank calls and smarks? I watched the segment where Paul E. Called in, was that a work?

Why was this show cancelled? Prank calls and smarks? I watched the segment where Paul E. Called in, was that a work? This show started out great when it was live, but too bad it didn't stay that way. It eventually became taped and that defeated the whole purpose of calling it Livewire, haha. I too, remember the episode where "Bruce from Connecticut" called in. That was really good. I loved it when he said "why don't you sit there and shut the F up?" And the shocked look on Sunny's face was great!! I'm sure it was a total work. I also remember the episode where Vic Venom (Vince Russo for those who are unaware) exposed Dok Hendrix and called him Michael P.S. Hayes. I thought that one was great as well. While it was live, it was a great show. Once it became taped, it was done-for. It's too bad because I really enjoyed that show. One of the MANY shows to come and go.

I think this might have been before my time. I began watching around 1998, I seen some Livewire shows but it was usually Doc Hendrix aka Michael Hayes just doing the typical recap of Raw Is War.

Even for 1996, Livewire was ahead of its time. I remember its predecessor, Mania. The creation of Livewire was to finally ditch their syndicated programs (Superstars and Wrestling Challenge) and to take advantage of the popularity that America Online was getting. The room they used to film Livewire in originally was used for the old PPV Reports that Gene Okerlund used to do. I have several episodes of Livewire that was taped from their original airings in my closet. The advent of Livewire was one of many reasons why it was a good time to be a fan of the WWF in 1996.

Yeah 96/97 was the heyday of Livewire. With Todd Pettengail and Sunny. So much crazy stuff happened on there with the live callers. Paul Heyman was a memorable one. I think it was a work though, around the time of the ECW "invasion" of RAW in early 97. But the episode I remember most vividly is when Stone Cold was just getting hot in 96. Wish I could remember more or find these shows.

I missed waking up in the morning, eating breakfast, watching WWF Livewire & Superstars, and just finding stuff to do in the house. When Livewire debuted, I didn't even have a computer at home. To think almost twenty years has elapsed makes me want to cherish 1996 even more. Looking back at Austin's run in WCW, I think if anybody told you that Austin would be the WWF's next megastar, they would have mocked you. I swear, I am looking forward to watching all the RAW's from 1996 after seeing that Livewire clip.

How long did that show last for? 1996-2001 but it wasn't the same after Todd and Sunny left. I remember Michael Cole taking over with Jonathan Coachman. I think Shane McMahon's wife, Marissa, even co-hosted at one point. It got really cheesy and watered down with them but the original stuff was great.

Was the show on USA network? Originally, yes. It moved to TNN when Raw did. Yup, Livewire aired on TNN from September 30th, 2000 to August 18th, 2001. Both Livewire and Superstars were eventually replaced by WWF Excess on August 25th, 2001.
