Which do you guys prefer? What I mean by this is guys like Punk who stayed at the top of the card for about 3 years all up and had memorable moments and feuds without fans getting tired of him and once gone leaves the fans begging for more or long stays like Orton, Cena, HHH, HBK, Taker where eventually they can get rather stale and fans tend to turn on them and them off our screen and once gone fans aren't really clamouring for them to come back because they don't have anything new to really do that they haven't done or won before. Which do you prefer and see as a great way to have an effective and memorable career?

Depends who the person is.
People like Hogan, Bret, Cena and Austin had long Main Event stays because they could keep the crowd interested for long periods of time.
Some people can't keep the crowd engaged for long enough to stay in the main event.

I prefer Long main event careers. Once upon a time, once you got to main event level you never came back down. Even if you weren't at the very TOP of the card, you were a main event player in the sense that your name was a draw. You were a superstar for life. I think CM Punk is at that level.
Nowadays you have former "world champions" like Del Rio, Sheamus, Jack Swagger... who might as well never have had a world title because they never became a draw. They're manufactured champions, not grassroots champions who got to a certain point because of the fans and can't be denied.

If the character changes, evolves, develops over time then a long main event stay is welcome.
If the character never changes, becomes stale, doesn't develop then get the hell out of the way and make room for someone else.

Well two of my favorites are Austin and punk and they both had short stays so I guess I'll go with that. Short as in a few years, not a few months.

It's a case by case basis. Very few guys have had a decade run, so I prefer those because their very special.

A good example of this would be Bobby Lashley vs John Cena's PPV Match. Really can't think of another time where they tried to push someone and it just didn't work. Main evented 2 PPV's though.

At what point did fans ever turn on HBK or The Undertaker? They didn't....but they both turned their backs on the WWE Universe. #WWE2K14BadJoke

Both. Mainstays who are there for years like Cena and Punk, and then elevate others for periods of time to oppose them like R-Truth and Jack Swagger.

Still not seeing where fans ever turned on HBK or Taker 1996 - people turned over to WCW when Shawn got the title.

Ever since MITB started, a lot of people ended up getting titles that really should not have gotten them. I love the concept, but there's been some really crappy title reigns and even crappier main event runs because of it.

I seriously want to know when fans turned on Michaels and Taker.
I don't recall a time.
Unless HBK was in Montreal or Taker was a heel. But hell, they both got cheered as heels to.
So, unless you're talking about the internet community, which isn't surprising at all, I'd really like to be informed on when fans turned on them.

It was great for guys in the beginning who were just at that Main Event point anyways like RVD/Edge/Punk. But when guys like Swagger, Del Rio, Miz, and Sandow win it, theres no point since there was no momentum or crowd support behind them. Guys just werent ready to be champion and got thrown into that spot and failed because of it.

Once during his title match against Sid at Survivor Series 1996 in MSG. Second time was in 1997 after he cost Undertaker the word title against Bret Hart at Summerslam.
