Hey guys - I haven't seen anyone talk about the ASR vs ESR other than to say they're the exact same mold and dimensions. So I'm hoping I can help those who are still on the fence about this to be better informed. I've owned 3 different ESRs over the years, bought & sold because of space issues or simply to capitalize on the premium price these things were going for. So I knew what I was in for when I pre-ordered this ASR. The SD & RAW skirts didn't sway me, I've always intended to have an 80s-style NWA ring. So here's my initial thoughts: ASR improvements over the ESR- The three clips underneath that connect the two halves feels a lot more sturdy and hard to take off!
- The middle support stands underneath are connected by a bar for even more stability.
- The canvas feels more padded.
- The ring posts have extra grooves at the base of the posts to fit more securely in the corners, feels very sturdy
- The three hoops on all the ring posts are not shakey like I found with some of my ESRs
- And of course the SD and RAW ringskirts although like I said, it wasn't a major selling point for me
ASR disappointments- The ropes are garbage! They are much too loose, too thin, and mine have distresses in the material right out of the box. naparo01's ropes from Ringskirts are much better, thicker, and you can tighten them as you desire. I'd strongly suggest you get new sets of ropes.
- The 12 canvas clips are still useless, but I've found those butterfly clips you clip paper with works much better!
So if you're in doubt, I'd say there are far more positives than negatives (and you can fix the negatives) - so go for it!

You know my honest opinion on the ASR? It's too big for mattel figures It's a good size for Jakks figures. The exact f'n opposite of the RSR

Nice review Bandy!
I agree about the mat holding clips not working very well, when I had an ESR I used fold around binder clips to keep the mat on tighter, worked a whole lot better.
I'm really excited for the ASR to arrive, I think it should be good.

Aside from one of my rubber pads ripping at the button and the incredibly loose ring ropes (I'm cutting them today and retying them because after playing with it a lot I've deemed them bad for play out of the box and the default ASR ropes could cause many botches and abnormalities in my matches. which is unacceptable because my fed is on a Skype broadcast) It's an 9/10 ring, only taking one point off for those issues. thankfully i haven't had the skirt snapping issues and i've been able to interchange between RAW and SD with ease.

That looks good Bandy. And if you get your Flair before me I would love to see a Pic of Flair with Arn, Tully your Lex vs your Sting Road Warriors and Dusty or Nikita in that ring.

I think the esr is better. Besides updated stuff such as posts and aprons, it doesn't really make me want to get it. I'm fine with my customized esr, and probably won't pick up the asr unless I get a good deal. The ropes appear to be tighter on the esr.

I was set on getting this thing but after hearing the ring ropes issue and the aprons ripping, I'll have to pass. My ESR will be fine.

I like the ring but its too pricey for me. I will stick with my 10 dollar Tribute to the Troops ring that I bought on clearance at Kmart. With the red, white and blue ropes it passes for a old school WWF ring.

Also I a might add Is That the ring apron feels really tight when i put it around ASR and also the skirt is really sensitive like if you move one part up or a sec and take away your hand it will stay like that until you fix it

Y'know, I'm not too sure about the colour sequence for the ropes. I've gone through as many NWA PPVs and TV shows I have between 1988 - 1989 when this green ring apron version was used and Crockett was all over the place with ropes. red/white/blue, red/yellow/blue, blue/white/yellow etc. etc. I don't think their ring crew had any formal procedures for setting up the ring. As a pro-NWA/WCW guy, even I have to admit how "bush league" an NWA ring looked compared to a WWF ring that always had the standard red/white/blue combo. And don't get me started on the different coloured turnbuckles for each corner!

Doesn't seem like it's worth the upgrade over my ESR. Thanks for the well thought out review.

Great run down of the differences.
The nwa ring is sick. Looking at naparos ropes...looks like u have to buy sets of all one color? How'd you get the yellow white blue combo? And did u have to custom order the nwa ring skirt? Thx boss!
Edit: I see u can order individual rope sets of one. and that ESR nwa ring skirt is a large size logo?
