They were uninspired to begin with. Joyless and plain. And they're now clearanced at my local Target.
In my opinion they should have gone with toys geared more to kids with a figure line reminiscent of the TMNT cartoon figs. Colorful, more cartoonish maybe. Like the mini Godzilla figs at TRU but bigger.

Outside of something like Batman or Superman, do "movie" action figures ever really "get over"? I mean, GI Joe movie figures have pretty much been wholesale at Big Lots. Spiderman movie figures never seem to sell much. I just cant think of many things off the top of my head that really "booms" when it comes to movie inspired figures.

Star Wars figures always crush it when a new movie comes out but those are a beast of its own.

Has anyone made a big two-foot Godzilla yet, I know the ones you're talking about (I think) and I don't like them either.

I didn't know Target sold them too. I only ever saw them at TRU

I'd totally buy that giant Godzilla if they were sold anywhere near me, I'm not about to pay to ship the thing.

Yeah the big one. Ok but that's all you'd ever want. Because the rest are horrid trash.
I saw the weird 7" ones that included a 1965(?) Godzilla? Ok. Who is buying that? And there are three I think in this size. Then there's the tiny playsets. I say "playsets" loosely. I saw the mid-sized tail-swinger one. SMH
And I like Godzilla.

Godzilla was not a kids movie and it really wasn't conducive to supporting a toy line. Kids weren't going to see the movie and so you were really depending on kids just seeing the trailer or seeing the toys in the toy aisle with the hope they would think they were cool.
I mean we're not seriously suggesting that Godzilla should sell like something like Transformers, Ninja Turtles, Star Wars or GI Joe, where the films are really secondary to the toy lines? Target only took those toys because the movie was hitting and it was likely a limited window of opportunity to have them on shelves at major chains. Godzilla will go back to being a comic & specialty shop item because that's where fans of those films shop anyway. Godzilla just isn't that popular of a product in the United States to have a full fledged line of toys like Spider-man or The Lego Movie.

The small scale ones didn't get over because they weren't good. The NECA one (the 12" head-to-tail one) is really great, and under 20 bucks. He's in scale with SH MonsterArts as well (which, as pointed out above, are incredible).
Jakks made the 2' tall, 3.5' long figure. Not very articulated, but sculpted well and it's an impressive showpiece. I did an animation/review here, check it out.
If you want, on my channel I also reviewed three MonsterArts figures ('94 Godzilla, '64 Godzilla, and Godzilla 2000) along with the NECA 2014 Godzilla.

Neca and SH is probably the only line worth buying when it comes to Godzilla and that's more a collectors market. Godzilla isnt gonna appeal to kids anyway, much like Joes dont anymore, but there is a market for them. I think toy company's hoep to make a quick buck off the movie so they put a kids line out. That or company's are completely clueless to their target audience.
