Ugh, what is it with WF and the anti-cop posts every 6 months.
There are great cops and awful cops. There are great soliders and awful soldiers. There are great accountants and corrupt accountants. There are great cashiers at McDonalds and awful cashiers at McDonalds.
People who don't do their job correctly and abuse what power they have is not an exclusive thing to cops, or any occupation or public service.
Almost every single decision a cop makes is a matter of life and death. And they do all of this at a much lower salary than one would think. If they hesitate one moment, a suspect can turn on them instantly and kill them. Ever see those videos of a cop getting shot to death just for pulling over a speeding car? Or the ones beaten to death trying to protect a family from a guy whacked out on PCP while his backup is on the way?
Sure, the very nature of their job will attract some power hungry a-holes, just like the military does. When they step out of line, they should be smacked down hard and fast. Unfortunately that doesn't happen as often as I am sure most of us, and them, would like. But to paint all cops as Orwellian thugs every single time something bad happens at the hands of an officer, is just outright ridiculous.
Most cops are good people, working hard to help people and support their families. They put their lives on the line daily for a pretty meager salary. I have nothing but respect for people who are willing to do that. And I have nothing but contempt for the few who break the law or intentionally hurt people. Just like I do with any person of any occupation who does that.

You don't trust police officers? Try to imagine a world without any... my point exactly.
I think what this thread shows is that most people fall victim to the media, specifically their strategy of repeatedly showing you only the extreme minority of cases in which an officer behaves inappropriately. For example, if a cop prevents a low-level criminal from stealing or selling drugs, the news won't promote it because the officer was just doing his or her job. And quite frankly none of you find that newsworthy. But when a statistical outlier takes things too far and abuses his or her power, naturally it gets an overwhelming amount of attention. Because you are only exposed to these exceptions to the rule you just assume that that's how most police officers behave, when in fact the opposite is true.
It seems like most people feel paranoid instead of protected when they see a police officer, which is very sad to be honest.

Okay, fair enough. I can accept that. I posted the story and said what I wanted to say. Now others can share their opinions and views on it. It's just a terrible, sad situation all around. For the victim and police. Nobody comes out a winner in situations like this. Very sad and unfortunate. I don't HATE cops or think that they're all the same...but I am terrified of being involved with the ones that are bad I'll never understand the argument that the cop may have done everything right when the guy died from a chokehold though --- if someone dies from that action, there is no question that too much force was used & that it could have been avoided

It's really unfortunate that a few sh*tty cops ruin it for the good ones who genuinely do a great job.
*Just saw TRW's post, can't say it any better than that. There's good people and complete pricks in every line of work.

I saw the video and the guy was actively resisting arrest. To the people who say that they didn't need 3 or 4 officers to take him down, are you kidding me? The dude was 450 pounds. Of course it's going to take multiple officers to take him down. I won't comment on the chokehold because I simply don't know enough about it to have an opinion.
I'll never understand people who hate cops, but than call then when they need help.

Bash and TR-dub summed it up very nicely. Like a few here, I have also never got the whole " da police" attitude and mentality, and then they go and run to the cops when something goes down. Hypocrisy at its best.

Sure we don't know the whole story but was a ING DEADLY CHOKE HOLD nessicsry? Especially after he was already on the ground and they had him ripe for the picking he still jng choked him out as long as he could. Then the scumbag cop leaves the hold on for what seems like at the very least a minute. The dude was using every single bit of his pathetic strength to kill this man. And he knows it. You can see it in the video. I want this man imprisoned and sentenced to death. Let's not even talk about "all other cops" or make this an "anti cop " thread. I want to talk about this one single situation that has been making me sick and made me lose sleep over last night. WHY IS A MURDER WALKING THE STREETS WITH A BADGE?!

I don't trust a single cop. I wouldn't call them for help unless my life was in absolute danger in a situation I couldn't control. And this is coming from someone who's brother is a cop. This is ridiculous. How many more people have to lose their lives in the hands of these people, who are here to "protect us" before people start to wake up. I don't care if this causes controversy, but when a cop dies I don't feel bad at all. On the contrary I get a little happy. Not because their family lost someone, that part is sad, but because the "force" lost another one of theirs. I can't wait for people to finally be done with their BS! I hope I get to see, and be apart of, the day when people see a cop abusing his power and are so fed up that a mob rushes them. Yea I know this reply probably single handedly got me put on an NSA watch list along with more lists we probably don't even know about, BUT I DONT GIVE A !!!

I think you guys might have a much different opinion if that was a member of your family who you saw get choked to death by someone who is supposed to "protect and serve".
His crimes certainly did NOT deserve that kind of action from the police. Like I said before, it could and should have been handled better. And if I were a member of the victim's family, I would sue the hell out of that police department and especially the cop that killed him.
I wish they still had public hangings or the guillotine, just to make an example out of the worst people in the world. Dirty cops are just as low and unforgivable as child molesters.
They should strip that cop of his badge and he should go to jail for a long, long time. You can't just choke a guy to death and expect to get away with it, even if you are a cop. He killed a person who didn't deserve to die. He should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Selling untaxed cigarettes warrants the death penalty without trial now? And unless you've lived in a city like Chicago, Detroit, New York, ect. You Arnt going to understand the mindset. Crooked cops don't target doctors and lawyers living in a half a million dollar home, the courts and juries wouldn't buy that if it was happening all the time. The unemployed black dude who's walking down his street alone at night with no witnesses in sight? That's a different story. I've lived in Chicago my whole life. My house was broken into back in 2008, cops didn't show up for over an hour. It happened again 3 months later. My dad didn't even bother to call the cops the 2nd time till after he confronted the burglar with a shotgun. So no, I don't call the cops when I need help, 99% of the time they will either show up way after the criminals got away, or they will just make the situation worse. No thanks.

I want to see him get a maximum sentence and be put in general population. Just wait till the inmates find out he was a cop, better yet, imagine if someone he arrested was locked up with him. That would be a better punishment than giving him the easy way out with the death penalty.

Not EVERY SINGLE police officer is out to get people and I don't know why the hell people don't realize that.

Keep in mind my brother is an officer at the CPD, and I still hold my opinion. And Id bet at least 90% are crooked. People who are bullies, where bullied, or have a grudge against the world are typically the kinds of people who seek out positions of power such as police officers. If you want a better understanding of why cops are inherently corrupt, I highly suggest you look at the The Stanford Prison Experiment. It was a study conducted in 1971, that is really eye opening.

Please, just take a look at the Stanford Prison Experiment. You will understand so much more on this topic. It will only take you a few minutes.

Because being Bullied all thoughout elementary and middle school turned me into a huge dickhead in highschool when I found popularity. I would bury the ppl who wronged me in the past and get away with it. Now I'm back to being a loser. These crashbandicoots posts are spot on might I add.
