Its awesome to see awareness raised. One of my uncles has ALS and it's awful to see how his body has deteriorated. I haven't been challenged yet.

Ya know, you'd have thought Lou Gehrig would have known what his fate was gonna be. I mean, cmon your name is Lou freakin Gehrig.....

No because you're not even doing anything.. Everyone just dumps water and doesn't donate.

In my honest opinion this is stupid because pouring ice over your head doesn't help anyone with ALS nor does it do you any favours either.

Was there a reason for it to be ice water? Does it provide a glimpse of what an ALS patient has pain wise, or something?

You can't deny that it's raising awareness, and now with a bunch of celebrities getting nominated they are actually donating a significant amount of money to ALS foundations. I don't see why people are hating on it so much.

what is the point of this challenge? Just to raise money and awareness of ALS. I did the challenge and donated 10$. It was fun. People piss away 10$ for a lot dinner things. I never knew about ALS or knew in depth until a customer of mine had it. It really is very very sad and I am glad to be able to donate.

No because you're not even doing anything.. Everyone just dumps water and doesn't donate. Yep. donate money, or don't bother. Exactly. This is raising awareness, I'll give it that. But in the most annoying way possible. Somehow making the cause about you. This is for a generation that needs attention on themselves.

I don't care much for this sort of "slacktivism", and I particularly don't care for being guilted into donating my time, effort, or money to "it" causes. That's not to bring down any on particular charity or cause, but different ones are gonna hit different folks for different reasons. ALS, for the terrible affliction that it is, doesn't have any particular hooks in me. There are others that do, and I've given them a fair shake more than a bucket of ice over my head over the years.

I'm not sure why, but I despise the ice bucket challenge. I'm all for raising money and awareness for stuff that could help people, but the ice bucket challenge just annoys me. I think it may be because I think most people aren't really doing it to raise awareness, but just because everyone else is doing it. I see so many people doing it that know, and I know they don't even know what they are doing the challenge for.
My buddy asked me if it was ok for him to nominate me. I told him to go screw himself. Although, he said it was dump the bucket or donate $100.

I don't see why people are hating on it so much. Because life is spending time dissecting what other people do and bitching about it. If celebrities are donating and spreading the word, then good.
