So the release date and opening cinematic were revealed on the 14th. For anyone who hasn't seen it, here's the cinematic:
What did everyone think? I think it was awesome! Blizzard always make mind-blowing cinematics, but this one is already one of my favourites. For those who don't know, this is the background of the cinematic:
In the new expansion, Garrosh Hellscream has travelled to a parallel universe, and back in time. He plans to unite the orc clans on Draenor, and forge them into an Iron Horde, and use them to conquer Azeroth in the original Warcraft universe. In this cinematic, it shows a pivotal point in Warcraft history. In the original Warcraft universe, most of the orc clans drunk the demon blood, and were transformed into bloodthirsty warriors, enslaved to do the demons will, and to simply conquer. It also turned their skin colour to green and enhanced their muscles, but the bloodthirsty and enslaved to the demons aspect is most important. However, in this parallel universe, Garrosh was there to to warn his father, Grom Hellscream, beforehand. And so instead of drinking the demon blood, Grom is able to slay the pit lord Mannoroth (whom Grom eventually slew in the original Warcraft universe 30 years after the drinking of the demon blood event). With most of the orc clans forged into The Iron Horde, they "will never be slaves", but they "will be conquerers".
I can't put into words how much I love this cinematic. I absolutely love the fact that at the moment Grom slays Mannoroth and Mannoroth explodes, the scene is recreated from Warcraft 3, in the cinematic in which Grom slays Mannoroth in the original Warcraft universe 30 years after the demon blood event. However this time, Garrosh is there to push his father out of the way of the explosion, saving his life. I love it when productions (if you can call a video game series a production), pay homage to iconic scenes and events that they created years earlier.
The new expansion is awesome as well. Just purely from playing beta for the past month, it is a ton of fun, and garrisons are lots of fun too. The new character models look fantastic.
Anybody else here play WoW, or planning on going back to WoW? Even if you don't play WoW, but have played any of the Warcraft games, I'd love to read what you have to type.
