I rarely ever post threads like these, but hey, what the hell. I'll make this brief and just wanna see what you guys have to say.
Saturday evening my friend and I took the train into NYC to go to Chinatown for dinner. We ate, looked around the city and decided to take a different train back to avoid less walking. As we approach the platform, we are informed about a water main break causing the trains to be shut for the night. As I'm standing there, I see a really nice looking chick who seems confused about the whole thing. She made eye contact with me, but I didn't think much of it and walked back up to the streets.
There's another helpful lady who throws the idea we all split a cab to get to the bus terminal as that was our only way home. I looked over, and the girl who was at the platform was there now, in front of me again. She asked me what was going on and if she could stick around with me, maybe even walk to the terminal to avoid a taxi and paying out more cash. We all agreed to just grab a cab, split the cost but stick together as we all headed into the same direction back home. I decided to strike up a conversation with her to kill some time during the ride. She worked in the city, was here for the summer from another country with a friend and was basically lost about what she had to do to get home since the train was broken down. Her friend was at work as well, but would also be clueless as well on how to get home, so she told us she would be heading back to meet with her and they'd re-do the same thing we did to arrive at the right place.
I showed her around the bus terminal, explained what to do and how to do it. She was honestly, in my view, a really drop dead gorgeous chick but not even the slightest bit stuck up. For the brief little while we talked it was interesting. My friend and I split up with the chick and said our goodbyes. She thanked me a lot and said it was a pleasure to meet me. Question here is, and I'm looking for honest thoughts.. was I stupid for not asking her if she had an Instagram or FB, etc? She was only going to be in this area for another 3 weeks before heading home, so I felt like hmm, if I talked to her some more, maybe we could pal around and shoot the crap one day, but in the end I let it go and just told her to have a good night, and went on my way.
This whole thing may seem odd, but it's not every day you come across a hot chick who happens to live in your area and is working in NY while here on vacation from another part of the world. It hit me some type of way, or maybe I'm just looking at it wrong..
I've been thinking about this. My buddies tell me I would've been more butt hurt if I got to know her before she left for her country. Also, who knows, maybe she had a boyfriend over there? Husband? Hence why at the last minute I decided against anything and just said nice to meet you...

Yea dude, I see why you might feel like you  ed up, but you made the right move in the grand scheme of things. You don't want to go getting involved or falling in love with someone you're not going to be able to be with, ya know? |

I wouldn't consider it a mistake -- just a choice you made; I could never begin to tell you what the right thing was...because I'm not you getting contact information obviously opens up a world of possibilities, but that's not always an easy step to take when you start thinking about all the what ifs **either way, can tell from this that you're a solid guy & not out for things that are necessarily temporary...so hope you don't dwell on it too much (it'll drive you crazy) |

Looks like you have a odd situation on your hands. From personal experience, it is not worth letting them get in contact with you. The last time I struck a conversation with a woman and gave her my phone number, she ended up being fake and dishonest. Since then, I haven't given out my contact info to another woman.

Maybe she was a little lonely and needed someone, and if she has a boyfriend, he's in another country and you shouldn't worry, that's her problem.

actually you should have asked for a phone number instead of this whole social media garbage, or given her yours and asked if she would like to get lunch sometime. What did you have to lose? She says no? She takes your number and doesn't call? Or she does call and you take her out to lunch and you make a new friend that could have turned into something more? Big deal about her being in another country. There are three words you should live life by and they are simply: "you never know."
I don't think you'll make that same mistake twice. But don't beat yourself up too much about it. OR go back to that train station at the same time and maybe you'll see her again. That's what I would do.

Sometimes you have to take a risk or you may never know.
In this situation, I think you did the right thing. She is from another country and it would be difficult to get a strong bond going in just three
weeks and then see her and what not.

Every guy has plenty of moments in their life where they later regret not making a move on a chick. It's normal to happen, and to feel that way. I wouldn't spend a lot of time going to look for her, but instead use it as a lesson for next time you are talking to a girl who interests you, as a reminder to go for it.

I've had a lot of these moments and have to say I think you made the right decision. It's not good to fall in love with a girl who lives in another
country and is only in the U.S. for a few days. Just imagined all the emotional distress you aren't dealing with now, because of that. If this happens next time I would get her number only if she lives in the U.S. that is.

I would have gone with the phone number route. In order to not seem weird, as a guy you should always GIVE your number instead of asking for hers.
It would have been totally natural by giving her your number and letting her know if she ever needs to get around the city, you'll be there.

Next time, make a move. You won't be any worse off if you get rejected or it doesn't work out.

She's leaving the country in a few weeks so pursuing any type of relationship with her would've given you more problems than good. Don't beat yourself up over it bro.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I've basically come to the conclusion I did the right thing by not pursuing anything when I had the chance that evening. I'll take this as a lesson learned and be happy nothing came to be that would have lead me to be emotionally attached with someone who lives such a great distance. If anyone has anything else to say, feel free to add.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I've basically come to the conclusion I did the right thing by not pursuing anything when I had the chance that evening. I'll take this as a lesson learned and be happy nothing came to be that would have lead me to be emotionally attached with someone who lives such a great distance. If anyone has anything else to say, feel free to add. The last thing any man and woman needs is heartache. You did the right thing. Long distance relationships usually fail in the end. I have been emotionally attracted to a woman I met in 2011. Once she rejected me, it was game over and haven't spoken to her since. Only you can call the shots in your life. Having good advice can help ease you in the end. |
